  1. Course"Identifying and investigating cases of forced labour and trafficking"

    15 - 19 April 2013, ILO International Training Centre Turin, Italy

    The main objective of the course is to train participants to better identify and investigate cases of forced labour, including trafficking for labour exploitation. The course addresses the different stages of the process (inspecting workplaces, interviewing victims, gathering evidence), with a focus on the private sector (textile, agriculture, domestic work, etc.).

  1. Atelier National Tripartite sur la Discrimination en Matière d’Emploi et de Profession au Togo Lomé, mai 2012

    L’atelier vise à permettre à l’Etat et aux partenaires sociaux de disposer d’éléments de réflexion pertinents en vue de l’adoption et de la mise en œuvre d’une stratégie et d’un plan national de lutte contre la discrimination en matière d’emploi et de profession. Plus spécifiquement, l’atelier cherche à : - Améliorer les connaissances des mandants tripartites sur les différentes formes de discrimination ; - Informer et sensibiliser les intéressés sur les instruments internationaux pertinents sur la discrimination dans l’emploi et la profession, notamment la C n°100 et la C n°111 de l’OIT ; - Créer un consensus fort autour de la question en vue de l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre d’une stratégie et d’un plan d’action de lutte contre la discrimination.

  1. Training "Identifying and investigating cases of forced labour and trafficking"

    This course will train participants to better identify and investigate cases of forced labour and trafficking in persons for labour exploitation. It will address different stages of the investigative process, including detecting signs, inspecting workplaces, interviewing victims, and gathering other evidence. The course will focus on forced labour occurring in the private sector (including of textile, agriculture, and domestic workers), but will not specifically address sexual exploitation.

  1. Migrant workers: responsible recruitment & fair hiring to combat human trafficking in South Asia

    13 March 2012, India Habitat Centre, Delhi

    The Institute for Human Rights and Business and Verité organize a multi-stakeholder roundtable to explore the challenges, risks and human rights responsibilities around recruiting Indian, Bangladeshi and Nepali migrant workers for overseas employment, and ensuring responsible practice to combat human trafficking.

  1. National Conference on Promotion of Equality at Work in India: Manual Scavenging Practices

    24 - 25 February 2012, Ahmedabad, India

    The National Conference on Manual Scavenging Practices brought together a total of 62 persons from the Government, trade unions, UN agencies, national and international NGOs, civil society organizations, academicians and former manual scavengers. The main objective of the national seminar was to review and discuss the current situation regarding manual scavenging and to brainstorm and discuss practical and policy measures and solutions leading towards its elimination. The National Seminar built on key findings and observations derived from previous regional consultative meetings undertaken in the framework on the project and provided practical recommendations on the action to be taken to tackle manual scavenging in the country.

  2. Workshop on strengthening the implementation of the Equal Remuneration Act (ERA) through enhanced application of the principles of C.100 and improved data collection - India

    22 - 23 February 2012, New Delhi, India

    The main objective of this tripartite workshop was to identify action points to be taken by the labour institutions and other relevant stakeholders towards strengthening the effectiveness of the Equal Remuneration Act, in line with the principles of Convention No.100. This two-day workshop brought together 43 participants and contributed to improve their understanding of the basic principle of equal remuneration for work of equal value contained in Convention 100 and international experience in applying this principle through laws, policies, proactive measures, guidelines, tripartite social dialogue and gender-neutral job evaluation, among others. At the end of the workshop, participants proposed recommendations on the way forward regarding the effective implementation of ILO C.100 in three main areas: 1) Research and data collection, 2) Proactive measures, and 3) Legislation. Recommendations emanating from this workshop will be officially presented by the ILO to the inter-ministerial gender task force.

  3. Atelier de renforcement des capacités des Inspecteurs du Travail en normes internationales du travail, principes et droits fondamentaux au travail et en méthodologie pratique de l’Inspection du Travail.

    6 - 9 February 2012, Nouakchott, Mauritania

    L’atelier s’est tenu dans le cadre du PAMODEC avec comme objectives principaux : - Le renforcement des capacités des nouveaux Inspecteurs et Contrôleurs du Travail en normes internationales du travail, principes et droits fondamentaux au travail et en méthodologie pratique de l’Inspection du Travail ; - La discussion avec les participants les commentaires pendants de la Commission d’experts pour l’application des conventions et recommandations concernant la convention n°81 et les conventions fondamentales du travail ratifiées par la Mauritanie ; - La définition d’un mécanisme de suivi des engagements des participants à mettre en œuvre les connaissances acquises au cours de l’atelier.

  4. Formation Continue des Inspecteurs et des Contrôleurs du Travail : Les Normes Internationales du Travail et les Principes et Droits Fondamentaux au Travail Majunga, 6-10 février 2012

    6 - 10 February 2012, Majunga, Madagascar

    L’objectif de cet atelier qui s’est déroulé dans la cadre du PAMODEC, était de fournir aux professionnels du droit du travail à Madagascar les outils leur permettant de faire usage des principes et droits fondamentaux au travail dans la pratique nationale. Plus précisément l’atelier a visé à : - Permettre aux Inspecteurs et Contrôleurs du Travail d’acquérir des connaissances pertinentes et une compréhension approfondie des normes internationales du travail ; - Sensibiliser les Inspecteurs et Contrôleurs du Travail sur la Déclaration de l’OIT relative aux principes et droits fondamentaux au travail ; - Organiser les participants pour constituer les pôles d’un réseau de vulgarisation et de diffusion des principes et droits fondamentaux au travail en collaboration avec le BIT/PAMODEC.

  1. Training for the judiciary and labour administrators on national and international labour standards on non-discrimination

    23 - 24 October 2011, Hebei, China

    The objective of this training was to enhance knowledge of judges and labour inspectors on International Labour Standards (ILS) on equality and non-discrimination and its application, the relevance of comments of the ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations as well as the legal framework of non-discrimination in China.

  2. High level seminar on the application of workplace equality Conventions in China

    19 October 2011, Beijing, China

    The main objectives of the high level seminar were to present the recommendations emanating from a field study on Discrimination in Employment in China undertaken in four Chinese provinces and to facilitate constituent action on transforming the recommendations of the study into a national action plan. ILO officials made an introduction to the International Labour Standards (ILS) on equality and non-discrimination in particular Conventions Nos. 100 and 111 and provided with a global and national perspective of the application of the above mentioned principles. Participants were divided in working groups and proposed recommendations for the development of a National Action Plan on non-Discrimination.

  3. Severe labour exploitation of migrant workers - latest developments in politics and practice

    At the occasion of the World Day of Decent Work on October 7 the DGB Berlin-Brandenburg and the Berlin Alliance to Combat Trafficking for Labour Exploitation (BBGM) are organizing a public event to discuss the latest development in politics and practice with regard to severe labour exploitation of migrant workers in Berlin. BBGM is an initiative involving the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Berlin, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the German Association of Trade Unions, and the Berlin State Department for Labor and Social Affairs.

  4. Closing the Gender Pay Gap in Jordan. The first in a series of training courses on the concept and application of equal pay for work of equal value.

    6 - 8 October 2011, Dead Sea, Jordan

    In 2010, the Policy Brief on Pay Equity in Jordan, developed by the ILO in partnership with the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), pointed to continued gender-based pay discrimination at work. A subsequent Policy Roundtable on Pay Equity recommended that a focused initiative on pay equity could help to eliminate the gender pay gap. The establishment of a strong institutional framework for action on pay equity, the creation of evidence-based policies and action and legislative amendments were among the concrete activities proposed by national constituents to close the gender pay gap in the country. In July 2011, with technical support from the ILO, the tripartite plus National Steering Committee on Pay Equity (NSCPE) was established to promote pay equity (equal pay for work of equal value) for men and women workers in Jordan. Co-chaired by the Ministry of Labour and the JNCW, it comprises representatives from trade unions, professional associations, civil society, government bodies, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Industry and the private sector.

  1. “Launch of the National Steering Committee for Pay Equity” - Amman, Jordan - 25 July 2011

    18 - 31 July 2011, AMMAN, JORDAN

    The launch event will bring together tripartite constituents who will jointly decide and agree on the Committee’s mandate and membership, key desired results and next steps. Technical sub-committees on legal and research issues will be also formed during the launch. The tripartite plus National Steering Committee for Pay Equity will follow-up and take the lead in coordinating and implementing the Action Plan for Pay Equity in Jordan, as well as coordinate activities aimed at achieving pay equity for equal value of work. The Committee will be co-chaired by the Ministry of Labour and the Jordanian National Commission for Women JNCW. This will be the first step towards creating a strong institutional framework for action on pay equity in Jordan. It will be followed by further collaboration between ILO, MoL, JNCW and other Jordanian partners working on promoting pay equity in the country.

  1. Conference "Preventing Trafficking in Human Beings for Labour Exploitation: Decent Work and Social Justice"

    20 - 21 June 2011, OSCE, Vienna

    The 11th High-level Alliance against Trafficking in Persons conference aims to gain a deeper understanding and to analyse the various interconnected factors that foster the exploitation of people in slavery-like practice. The event is split into two segments: Mr Guy Ryder, Executive Director of the Standards and Fundamental Rights at Work Department at the ILO, will participate to the First Segment, which focuses on the added value and challenges of partnership and co-operation to fight trafficking in human beings as a form of modern-day slavery.The Second Segment brings together a variety of actors and experts, to generate exchange of information and expertise coming from very diverse fields, explore innovative ideas to tackle the problem and encourage new partnerships.

  1. Victim of Trafficking... and then?

    6 March 2011 - 6 March 2012, Graduate Institute, Geneva, Switzerland

    Roundtable organised by the HEI Graduate Institute. A phenomenon known as "modern day slavery", sex trafficking has become increasingly pervasive. The panel will explore this horrific issue from the perspective of a victim and feature experts who are working to combat human trafficking. Panelists will provide an overview of the problem in Geneva, Switzerland, and at international levels, and examine the steps being taken to address the phenomenon.

  1. Workshop to strengthen the role of Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions (CETU) in combating human trafficking in Ethiopia with ILO support

    25 - 27 January 2011, Ethiopia

    Leaders of the Ethiopian national trade union centre CETU met with industry federations to develop an action plan to combat trafficking of Ethiopian workers and children in a three-day seminar. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs presented the new Proclamation No. 632/2009 regulating private employment agencies.
