‘New Trends in Social Security’

On the request of the Employees Trust Fund Board (ETFB), the ILO Country office for Sri Lanka and Maldives will conduct a training programme for officials of the ETFB between 21-22 January 2019, which will focus on social security reforms in India; extending social security to organised and unorganised workers in India; and learning from those experiences.

The programme will also focus on building labour statistics through administrative data sets on social security which can be used for policy making, use of new technology in social security systems; and a comparative analysis of the social security schemes between the two countries. The knowledge, expertise and experience that India has gained in its own efforts in extending outreach and coverage to the organised and unorganised sector will be a resource for Sri Lanka in planning, expanding, extending or reorganising its own social protection systems, in a valuable South-South exchange.
The sessions will be facilitated by Shri Manish Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, and Ms Anuja Bapat, Deputy Director General, National Statistical Commission, Government of India supported by Mr Upali Athukorala, former Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Sri Lanka. Around 95 senior officials and Enforcement Officers from the Employees Trust Fund Board will participate.
