On 6-7 August 2018, the ILO Country Office for Sri Lanka and the Maldives in association with the Department of Labour is organizing a Training-of-Trainers workshop in Wadduwa for 30 Labour Officers (18 women and 12 male) from District Labour Offices in Avisawella, Ambalangoda, Colombo, Elpitiya, Kalutara, Maharagama, Matara, Matugama, Morawaka and Panadura.

Labour Officers are in the frontline of protecting workers from Occupational Safety and Health hazards and risks. This training, facilitated by the ILO’s Senior Specialist in New Delhi, Mr Tsuyoshi Kawakami, and Dr. Wajira Palipane, Deputy Commissioner of Labour (Occupational Health), will provide practical knowledge and skills for Labour Officers to assist employers and workers in small and medium sized enterprises to better safeguard health and safety in the workplace.

The main tool developed by the ILO for this purpose is the Work Improvement for Small Enterprises (WISE) methodology for simple, low-cost solutions that can be applied by employers and workers in a participatory way. The participants will have an opportunity to apply their training in two site inspections in Panadura during the workshop.
