ILO support for UWI's Actuarial Studies Programme

PORT OF SPAIN (ILO News) - Through a partnership between the Cave Hill School of Business of the University of the West Indies in Barbados, the ILO Office for the Caribbean and the Social Security Department of the ILO, actuarial students of the UWI, Cave Hill, recently benefited from ILO's expertise in social security and actuarial science. An ILO course entitled "Statistical and Actuarial Tools for Social Security Management” was offered as part of the 2010 Executive Diploma in Social Security Management. Participants from various Caribbean countries took part in the course which ran from 25 October - 3 November 2010. The course facilitator was Dr. Alejandro Bonilla Garcia, Chief of Education, Training and Skills Development, Department of Social Protection, ILO, Geneva.

The course started with a minute of silence in memory of the late Honourable David Thompson, Prime Minister of Barbados who passed away on 23 October 2010 and the most respectful condolences from the ILO to the family of the late Prime Minister and the people of Barbados.
