PORT OF SPAIN (News) - The ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean and the Secretariat of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States have announced their intention to continue to pursue the joint implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding they signed in 2008 which facilitates collaboration in the fields of Decent Work, Labour, Employment Policies and Development Issues.

Since last year’s signing the two institutions have developed a project document containing a proposal to establish a sustainable Labour Market Information System in the OECS countries.

They now plan to move forward with implementation of the project through a number of measures including:
  1. creating awareness and building support for the project among national and regional beneficiaries, other stakeholders and development partners,
  2. mobilizing funding for the project based on the two main guidelines in the MOU, namely to a) target the developmental stage of LMI activities for international donor funding and b)promote the ongoing funding of LMI activities from national sources, and
  3. seeking to implement the project in such a manner that will foster sustainability.

This latest statement of intent was signed this month by OECS Director General Dr. Len Ishmael and Director of the ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean, Dr. Ana Teresa Romero.
