An ILO Caribbean High Level Roundtable (COVID-19 webinar series)

The world of work in a time of COVID-19 (20 April 2020 at 11.00 am - 12.30 pm ECT).

Objective

The objective of the virtual roundtable, convened by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, is to provide a dialogue platform for governments, employers’ and workers’ representatives as well as other stakeholders to discuss the socio-economic impact of the pandemic and how it affects the world of work and explore solutions.

Framed within the umbrella of International Labour Standards, an essential reference in recovery processes and strategies, the debate will allow sharing information about the adopted policy measures and discussing their relevance and effectiveness in mitigating the impact of the crisis on companies and means of production, and with respect to the goal of safeguarding jobs and preserving income and livelihoods.

Specifically, the roundtable seeks to:
  • Disseminate and present some of the short-term measures implemented in the region to address the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as discuss policy options for economic and social recovery in the immediate, medium and long term.
  • Share information on good practices and measures adopted by different countries.
  • Provide mechanisms for social dialogue, consultation and connection between social partners and initiate debate around intervention frameworks that safeguard decent work opportunities in the region.
