Seminar on "Addressing the Employment Challenges of Caribbean youth in the Times of crisis"

organized by the Commonwealth Youth Programme Caribbean Centre and hosted by the Government of Saint Lucia with the technical support of the ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean

The May 2011 Regional Forum on Investing in Youth Employment, was held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago by the Commonwealth Secretariat. The meeting recommended to “create the enabling environment to foster greater youth entry into the job market and for the inclusion of youth concerns and right-based solutions in employment policies and Youth Employment Action Plans”. Following up on this recommendation, the CYPCC takes the opportunity of the ongoing global discussion on policy responses to the Youth Employment Crisis, to organise a seminar on Employment policies for officials and Caribbean Youth leaders. The seminar will provide an opportunity to understand what issues should be considered in designing comprehensive youth employment policies and actions plans. In addition it will also provide a forum to discuss best practices in this area and formulate recommendations on further action at the national level.

The national preparatory work for the seminar will also facilitate future work, especially in the area of awareness and advocacy and in generating more inclusive partnerships for policy and programming on youth employment creation.

The seminar, organized by the Commonwealth Youth Programme Caribbean Centre and hosted by the Government of Saint Lucia with the technical support of the International Labour Organization, Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, takes place in Saint Lucia, 29-31 March 2012.
