ILO, ILO/CINTERFOR, ACS and SENAI to review results of Anticipating Skills Requirements in Tourism Programme

The Programme has equipped participants to anticipate future skills requirements, focusing on the Tourism sector, in order to design training programmes to match labour market opportunities

Port-of-Spain - Friday, 5 Dec 2014 - A two-day Workshop, to be held at the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) Headquarters in Port of Spain, Trinidad on 8 – 9 December 2014, concludes the second part of a face-to-face Workshop held in May 2014, entitled “Anticipating Skills Requirements in Tourism: Occupational Trends and Emerging Demands” which signified the start of a seven-month virtual training programme with representatives from national training agencies (NTAs), and officials from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The Programme has equipped participants to anticipate future skills requirements, focusing on the Tourism sector, in order to design training programmes to match labour market opportunities.

The Programme is a South-South joint collaboration between the International Labour Organization (ILO) Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, Inter-American Centre for Knowledge Development in Vocational Training (CINTERFOR), the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and the National Industrial Training Service (SENAI), Brazil.

Participants will gather on 8-9 December 2014, to present data they have collected using the tools and methodologies they have learnt, based on SENAI’s Model; labour market observation; the identification and definition of skills; and analysis of social, economic and technological trends.

Skills development is essential in achieving the goal of Decent Work, increasing enterprises productivity and sustainability, and improving working conditions and workers’ employability.

 
The participating institutions in this Programme are:
  • The TVET Council of Barbados;
  • The Human Employment and Resource Training Trust, National Training Agency (HEART Trust/NTA), Jamaica;
  • The National Training Agency (NTA) Trinidad and Tobago;
  • Instituto Técnico Superior Comunitario, Dominican Republic;
  • Ministry of National Reconciliation, the Public Service, Labour Information and Ecclesiastical Affairs from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and
  • The National Training Service (SENA), Colombia.
