    Reform of the reform in the Republic of Moldova: New law puts State Labour Inspectorate back in charge of occupational safety and health

    The Republic of Moldova adopted, on 22 December 2020, the amendment law that restores the functions of the State Labour Inspectorate as the control body of occupational safety and health (OSH) and the investigation of work accidents. This is a first important step towards ensuring the functional integrity of the State Labour Inspectorate in accordance with international labour standards.

    Ukraine and ILO sign new cooperation agreement to pave the way for delivery on decent work

    In the next four years, ILO’s support to Ukraine will center around employment creation, extension of social protection, securing rights at work, and promotion of social dialogue. The assistance to be provided by ILO ranges from consolidating the reforms of the State Employment Service to increasing the compliance of the country with International Labour Standards.

    Liudmyla Denisova, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights signed a memorandum of understanding with the ILO represented by Heinz Koller, Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia on 8 December, 2020 to jointly promote fundamental rights at work in the country.

    Ukraine on its way to reform 50-year-old Labour Law

    Ukraine is currently making a new attempt to revise the outdated labour law. The UN in Ukraine, supported by the ILO, published last month a Position Paper on the ongoing Labour Law reform which was presented to Government and social partners in an online debate.The new Law is expected to reflect the current social and labour market relations and create an environment where businesses can thrive and workers find decent job opportunities with social protection and labour rights safeguarded.

    Labour migration

    Fair employment conditions for migrant workers in the EU—How to provide better support services for migrants?

    Under the current German EU Presidency, the German Ministry of Labour recently asked the ILO to facilitate a workshop on how to improve working conditions for migrant workers within the EU. The workshop recommends expanding support services for migrant workers, especially information on rights at work and working conditions in the native language of the worker.
