In Ukraine, the coal mining industry is a major contributor to the economy. However, it is among the most hazardous industrial sectors which still causes a high number of work accidents and occupational diseases. Ukraine is facing huge challenges in improving occupational safety and health (OSH) in the mining industry.

The purpose of this report is to provide a comprehensive review of the current OSH situation within the mining industry of Ukraine, assess gaps in the national OSH system, and identify priority areas for national OSH policies and programmes.

This report can serve as a useful reference for national authorities, experts and social partners of Ukraine in their effort to improve occupational safety and health in the mining industry, particularly through formulating a new mid-term sectoral OSH programme.
