    The annual World Day Against Child Labour was marked by events in scores of countries around the world on 12 June 2009 amid growing concerns over the impact of the economic crisis on child labour, and in particular girls.

  1. Trainings to promote more effective labour dispute settlement in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Serbia

    5 - 14 May 2009

    The purpose of amicable labour dispute settlement is to avoid strikes and to prevent long and costly legal procedures. “Alternative dispute resolution is both cost and time effective, and creates sustainable relationships between trade unions and employers, thus helping maintain industrial peace,” said Ms Cristina Mihes, ILO Specialist on Social Dialogue.

  1. Fifth Conference on “International Perspectives on Law Enforcement Co-operation in Combating Trafficking in Human Beings - Trafficking for Labour Exploitation”

    31 March - 2 April 2009

    This conference, organized by the International Organization for Migration and the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine, aims to bring together law enforcement practitioners from Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine, as well as from other selected countries of origin, transit and destination to continue the dialogue relating to practical and operational initiatives within the context of international co-operation in combating human trafficking.

  1. Subregional Tripartite Conference: Strengthening the Mechanisms of Labour Dispute Prevention and Amicable Resolution in the Western Balkan Countries and Moldova

    Participants at an ILO tripartite sub-regional conference exchanged experiences and prepared action plans to promote effective labour dispute settlement mechanisms in the countries of the Western Balkans and Moldova on 25-26 February 2009, in Becici, Montenegro.

  2. 8th European Regional Meeting

    9 - 13 February 2009

    The 8th European Regional Meeting (ERM) will provide the space for governments and worker and employer organisations, from across Europe and Central Asia, to come together and shape the ILO's future strategy in the European and Central Asian member countries of the ILO. There will also be a high level panel discussion with Prime Ministers from several European countries and representatives from worker and employer organisations.

  1. Regional Workshop for Employers’ Organizations on Strategies against Trafficking and Forced Labour

    21 - 22 May 2008

    Workshop organized on 21-22 May 2008 in the framework of the ILO project "Elimination of human trafficking from Moldova and Ukraine through labour market based measures". This high-level event raised awareness and facilitated cooperation and partnership to fight human trafficking bringing together representatives from employers’ organizations and business from Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania, Poland, and Ukraine. Their involvement is a key to the success of ILO efforts to rid the world of these abuses by 2015.
