According the ILO’s “World of Work Report 2012: Better Jobs for a Better Economy”, despite signs that economic growth has resumed in some regions, the global employment situation is alarming and shows no sign of recovery in the near future.

To mark the successful completion of the United Nations Joint Programme “Youth Employment and Migration” (YEM), funded by the Spanish Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund (MDG-F), a final conference was organized on 24 April 2012 in Belgrade, Serbia, presenting the significant results, achievements and potential way forward in addressing the youth employment and migration challenges of the country.

The ILO is holding events in 45 countries around the world throughout March to hear young people’s views on the alarming youth employment situation. In Central and Eastern Europe three national consultations will be organized in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine in March and April.

Workplace inequalities have increased significantly across Europe as a result of the global economic crisis and will continue to do so as more and more countries introduce austerity measures and labour reforms, according to a new study published by the International Labour Office (ILO).

A €3 million project, with funding by the European Union to improve the employability of the Albanian labour force was launched on 10th of February, 2012 in Tirana, Albania. Implemented by the International Labour Organisation in partnership with relevant ministries and the social partners the project will seek to enhance the capacity of the Labour Inspectorate to assess working conditions, introduce health and safety legislation in line with EU law and close the existing gap between the skills demanded by the market and those taught through vocational education and training.

The International Labour Office (ILO) issued a Technical Memorandum on the draft Labour Code of Hungary on 9 November 2011. The Office examined the draft Labour Code in light of both international labour standards and comparative labour law and practice at the request of the six Hungarian trade union confederations (ASZSZ, ÉSZT, LIGA, MSZOSZ, MOSZ and SZEF).
