A €3 million project funded by the EU to improve the employability of the Albanian labour force was launched on 10th of February, 2012 in Tirana, Albania. Implemented by the International Labour Organisation in partnership with relevant ministries and the social partners the project will seek to enhance the capacity of the Labour Inspectorate to assess working conditions, introduce health and safety legislation in line with EU law and close the existing gap between the skills demanded by the market and those taught through vocational education and training.

A stakeholders meeting was organized by the International Labour Office (ILO) to review the implementation of the ILO project “Strengthening the enabling environment for scaling up HIV prevention in the world of work to combat HIV-related stigma and discrimination” on 12th December 2011 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The International Labour Office (ILO) issued a Technical Memorandum on the draft Labour Code of Hungary on 9 November 2011. The Office examined the draft Labour Code in light of both international labour standards and comparative labour law and practice at the request of the six Hungarian trade union confederations (ASZSZ, ÉSZT, LIGA, MSZOSZ, MOSZ and SZEF).

A sub-regional tripartite conference was organized on 9-10 November 2011 in Becici, Montenegro to discuss achievements and challenges ahead for social dialogue institutions in the Western Balkan countries and Moldova.

The objective of the conference was to share knowledge on crisis recovery experiences of the Balkan countries, as well as to define successful policy design options and recommendations for a sustainable jobs-led recovery.

How employers’ organisations can assist their members to meet the opportunities and challenges brought about by the economic and financial crises will be one of the key topics at a meeting in Belgrade next week. Twenty one high level representatives from employers’ organisations from six countries* of the Western Balkans and Moldova will participate in a two day Conference on 5 and 6 October 2011.

Around 65,000 young Albanian women and men will benefit from a 3-year Action Plan for Youth Employment in Albania launched on 19 July 2011 in Tirana, Albania, in the presence of representatives from line ministries, the social partners, the private sector, national and regional institutions, development partners and civil society. This is the result of over 1 year of consultations led by the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.

Over 100 participants from the Government, employers’ and workers’ organizations, the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, the International Labour Office (ILO) as well as civil society at large came together in Kyiv, on 29 June 2011, to discuss the results of the joint EU-ILO project ‘Gender Equality in the World of Work’ project.
