The International Labour Organization (ILO) and Albania have renewed their commitment to implement decent work in Albania under a new partnership agreement signed in Tirana, Albania on 10 December 2012.

The ILO Youth Employment Programme is organizing a photo contest to shed light on youth employment issues, the challenges young people face in the workplace as well as their power to overcome them. The contest “WORK4YOUTH” is sponsored by The MasterCard Foundation.

A three-year action plan to promote more and better jobs for young people aged between15-29 was adopted by the Government of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia on the 17th October, 2012. This is the country’s first action plan to tackle its youth jobs crisis. The plan has been developed with the technical assistance of the ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team in Budapest, in cooperation with the ILO International Training Center in Turin and in consultation with national trade unions and employers’ organizations.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on the 8th of October 2012 to kick-start cooperation in the area of gender equality in the Ukrainian world of work.

New ILO estimates show forced labour is a serious issue in the European Union. Many countries are adopting increasing measures to tackle the problem, but more is needed when it comes to identifying and prosecuting criminals.

A National Tripartite Agreement on Employment and Jobs to realize people’s right to decent work was signed in Ukraine on the 1st of June 2012. This agreement has been developed based on the ILO Global Jobs Pact aimed at helping countries recover from the crisis.

The ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team and Country Office for Central and Eastern Europe has assisted the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Moldova in setting up and implementing awareness raising campaigns for the agricultural and construction sectors. In Ukraine, a campaign has been developed to promote gender equality in the workplace and a new campaign is being prepared now on how labour inspectors can help achieve decent work goals.
