    In May 2014 unprecedented rainfall over a three-day period caused massive flooding and landslides, and forced more than 30,000 from their homes. In response to the disaster, the Government of Serbia undertook a Recovery Needs Assessment (RNA), supported jointly by several international organizations, including the ILO.

    This publication summarizes the current provisions of employment injury benefits in Serbia and provides an overview of the social security benefits against accidents and sicknesses for work-related and general cases. It also presents the analysis with respect to the measures to improve the reporting of work accidents and occupational diseases in Serbia as well as presents the actuarial evaluation of the costs of employment injury benefits and the methods for determining contribution rates.

  6. Employment and Migration in Serbia

    Serbia counts more than 800,000 young people between the ages of 15 and 24 – 52 per cent men and 48 per cent women – which is almost 18% of the overall working age population. These young Serbians face great labour market challenges. The employment rate for youth aged 15-24, just above 15 per cent, is three times lower than for the working-age population (47 per cent). With an unemployment rate reaching 46 per cent, the young generation is also more than twice as likely to be unemployed as the overall working-age population, which faces an unemployment rate of 20 per cent.
