    Amid the worst financial and jobs crisis since the Great Depression, the International Labour Organization (ILO) marked its 90th anniversary in the week of 21-28 April and in September 2009. During this period, there was a global convergence on the common theme of social dialogue for decent work and a fair globalization in commemorative events in more than 100 countries across the world.

  7. Trainings to promote more effective labour dispute settlement in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Serbia

    The purpose of amicable labour dispute settlement is to avoid strikes and to prevent long and costly legal procedures. “Alternative dispute resolution is both cost and time effective, and creates sustainable relationships between trade unions and employers, thus helping maintain industrial peace,” said Ms Cristina Mihes, ILO Specialist on Social Dialogue.

    Participants at an ILO tripartite sub-regional conference exchanged experiences and prepared action plans to promote effective labour dispute settlement mechanisms in the countries of the Western Balkans and Moldova on 25-26 February 2009, in Becici, Montenegro.
