  1. Employment and Social Affairs Platform

    Phase 2 of this regional project funded by EU will continue working on peaceful settlement of labour disputes, improving labour inspections, and strenghtening economic and social councils as platforms for policy dialogue (see also www.esap.online). In addition, the project will start working on combating undeclared work.

  2. Scaling up social dialogue in the Western Balkans

    The Economic and Social Councils of the Western Balkans, the EU Commission, the Regional Cooperation Council and the ILO met at a high-level meeting to assess the progress made and the challenges ahead in efficient tripartite social dialogue in the region. The meeting, held on 24-25 September, 2019 in Skopje, North Macedonia, was the closing event for phase one of the Economic and Social Affairs Platform project, funded by the European Union. The project is about to launch its second cycle to move forward social dialogue and to combat undeclared work. We interviewed two participants from different walks of life to understand their perception of the status of social dialogue and to talk to them about their contributions and future challenges.

  3. CEELex Central and Eastern European Labour Legislation Database

    CEELex is a searchable online database offering information on the national labour laws in Central and Eastern Europe. Based on ILO conventions and more than 25 years of working experience in labour legislation in CEE, the database provides selected key information on labour and industrial relations in the region. The topics covered range from collective bargaining to working conditions (e.g. minimum wages, working hours), termination of employment contracts, labour dispute resolution, and non-standard forms of employment.

    The leaflet describes the mission, geographical focus, resources and interventions offered by the ILO Regional office for Central and Eastern Europe. It enlists its donors and offers testimonies of beneficiaries of the office's interventions.

    To celebrate Europe Day in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Mr. Christian Danielsson, Director General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, European Commission and Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative visited the “Center for development of innovations and entrepreneurship” in Sarajevo to see how the center works and meet with students.

    As the oldest specialized UN agency, the International Labour Organization celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Exactly one hundred years ago, on 11 April 1919, the plenary session of the Paris Peace Conference accepted the draft ILO Constitution which became part of the Treaty of Versailles signed on 28 June 1919 to end World War I. This remarkable date was celebrated by a day-long series of 24 Global Live Tour events spanning four continents to mark the ILO Centenary.

  10. ILO provided assistance for the creation of 550 new jobs in Bosnia and Herzegovina

    The job creation project funded by EU and implemented by ILO facilitated the establishment of 19 local employment partnerships in BiH which trained more than 1,600 unemployed persons. A third of them have already been placed into new jobs and the approach is being replicated by other countries in the region.
