On the eve of the World Economic Forum in Davos and a week before the EU Summit on 30 January 2012 in Brussels, the International Labour Organization (ILO) publishes its annual flagship report on global employment: “Global Employment Trends 2012: Preventing a deeper jobs crisis”.

On 25 October 2011, the European Commission adopted its new CSR strategy "A renewed EU strategy 2011-14 for Corporate Social Responsibility". In this document the Commission not only highlights the importance of the implementation of core ILO standards but importantly invites all European-based multinational enterprises to make a commitment by 2014 to respect the ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles Concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy. The ILO very much welcomes this important and very concrete support of the Commission for ILO instruments.
