i. The ILO Brussels Internship Programme:
The internship is meant for enthusiastic and flexible persons looking for work experience in an international/EU affairs environment based in Brussels.ii. The purpose of granting traineeships is threefold:
- to enable carefully selected graduate students to participate in the multicultural and intergovernmental work of the ILO;
- to offer the opportunity to the participants to acquire knowledge of the ILO's "real work" environment and to deepen their understanding of the ILO's goals, policies and activities;
- to enable the ILO-Brussels office to benefit from the assistance of persons with relevant knowledge and skills in areas within the scope of activities of the ILO.
iii. The tasks will include:
- Analyse and follow-up global labour issues relevant for cooperation with the European Commission (trade, development, neighbourhood, external assistance, employment and social policy);
- Assist in the research and identification of EU financing opportunities for the ILO’s technical cooperation projects worldwide;
- Assist in the preparation of ILO’s responses to calls for proposals, ensuring efficient coordination between ILO-Brussels, ILO’s Regions and ILO’s Technical Departments;
- Support the preparation of training materials, manuals and guidelines and the organization of workshops and trainings on technical cooperation methodology;
- Monitor and report on policy developments relevant to the ILO;
- Attend conferences and meetings and prepare inputs, presentations as well as minutes;
- Any other tasks relating to the work of the Office, as requested by the Programmes and Operations Officer or the ILO-Brussels’ Director.
iv. Eligibility and prerequisites:
Applicants must:- be in the last year of a Master degree or above, or have completed their studies no earlier than one year prior to this application in preferably in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Economics;
- possess a strong interest in International and European political issues and knowledge of the ILO, EU institutions and the UN system;
- have deep interest and good understanding of international and EU affairs, especially on labour issues;
- be proficient in English and French, knowledge of Spanish would be an asset;
- have excellent editorial skills in two of the three above mentioned languages;
- have excellent communication skills, including developing messages for European decision makers;
- be computer literate;
- must meet all expenses for travel and subsistence and have an adequate health insurance.
v. Requirements:
Please only apply for an internship if you fulfil the following criteria:
- you have no close relative serving in the ILO.
- this is your first internship with the ILO (only one internship within the ILO is permitted).
vi. What we offer
- A 6-month internship (September 2013 – March 2013);
- A stipend of 750,00 € per month;
- A full-time position of 40 hours per week (9:00 am -1:00 – 2:00 pm - 6:00 p.m.);
- 2,5 days of leave per month of work;
- A letter of recommendation of the Director of the ILO-Brussels’ office.
