Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Labour Market in the Occupied Palestinian Territory: a Forecasting Model Assessment

The purpose of this report is to highlight the impact of COVID-19 on the labour market in the OPT, despite the lack of detailed data. Policy recommendations are provided based on the results of the analysis and with a view to mitigating the impact of the pandemic on the labour market in the OPT.

Accordingly, three key dimensions were considered in assessing the contextual framework of the impact of COVID-19 on the labour market: Firstly, the quantity of jobs (both unemployment and underemployment); secondly, the quality of work (e.g. wages and access to social protection); and thirdly, effects on specific groups who are more vulnerable to adverse labour market outcomes.

The present analysis is also guided by the ILO’s four-pillar policy framework aimed at guiding government interventions and the policy responses needed to facilitate a sustainable and equitable recovery.
