Amman, Jordan, 28 and 30 June 2020 - The International Labour Organization’s (ILO) “Applying the G20 Training Strategy Project: A Partnership of the ILO and the Russian Federation” funded by the Russian Federation facilitated an industry-led qualification development process, which was held under the Sectoral Skills Council for the Chemicals and Cosmetics through a workshop held on 28 and 30 June 2020 at the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI). The Technical and Vocational Skills Development Commission was established in 2019 pursuant to Law No. (9) /2019: TVSD Law.

The foundation of this new entity suggests a complete reform of TVET governance in Jordan. The two-day workshop is a step towards developing demand-driven qualifications within the Chemicals and Cosmetics Sector. Fifteen participants nominated by the C&C SSC attended the workshop. During the workshop, participants were trained on facilitating DACUM sessions and developing of occupational standards for Quality Assurance- Total Quality Management (TQM).

Moreover, during the meeting, the Chairman of the NSSC and Representative of the Chemical & Cosmetics sector at the Jordan Chamber of Industry Mr. Ahmad Albess expressed the importance of developing the occupation standards to the sector and stated that “the workshop aimed at increasing the capacity of the chemical & cosmetics sector to recruit and absorb many Jordanian workers in all industrial areas, will help on increasing growth in the sector and support sectoral workers and stakeholders to achieve their desired goals”.

The ‘Applying the G20 Training Strategy: A Partnership of the ILO and the Russian Federation’ covers a number of countries, including Jordan. It contributes to meeting the Russian government’s commitment to the G20 Development Working Group on HRD, which aims to strengthen further the skills and employability development systems and to address the priorities identified in consultation with the key stakeholders in each of the project countries.
