National Workshop on Human Trafficking in Yemen

The workshop will discuss where Yemen stands with the new draft legislation on human trafficking, and how to align the new draft law with ILO Convention No. 29 and its supplementing Protocol and Recommendation.

Beirut (ILO News) – A national workshop co-hosted by the Ministry of Human Rights of Yemen and the ILO will be held in Beirut from 6-8 September. The three-day event will discuss where Yemen stands with the new draft legislation on human trafficking, and how to align the new draft law with ILO Convention No. 29 and its supplementing Protocol and Recommendation.

The ILO is collaborating with the Yemeni government and other partners in order to design a roadmap for legislative reform in Yemen, and develop a national strategy to combat human trafficking. Recent research on demographic and labour market trends in Yemen, as well as research on labour migration and trafficking, will also be presented.

Participants in the workshop will include the Director of the Minister’s office of the Yemeni Minister of Human Rights along with a delegation from the Yemeni government, ILO experts, and representatives from the International Organisation for Migration and Human Rights Watch.
