Launch of the report “Assessing Informality and Vulnerability among Disadvantaged Groups in Lebanon: A Survey of Lebanese, and Syrian and Palestinian Refugees”

In light of the compounded crises that have hit Lebanon, disadvantaged Lebanese citizens, and Syrian and Palestinian refugees are living in ever-poorer conditions, facing increased vulnerability, heightened informality and deepening poverty.

Labour market challenges have been greatly exacerbated. However, reliable and representative data and statistics that accurately reflect the situation on the ground remained largely scarce, limiting the ability to plan and design evidence-based, effective and well-targeted policies and programmes.

Against this backdrop, the ILO, with funding from the Ford Foundation, conducted a study to assess informality and vulnerability among disadvantaged groups residing in the 251 most vulnerable cadasters in Lebanon. A survey of disadvantaged Lebanese and Syrian and Palestinian refugees was conducted by Statistics Lebanon, along with Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), covering both the demand and supply sides of the labour market.

Based on the results of the survey and the information collected during the FGDs and the KIIs, as well as a desk review, an analytical report was prepared, assessing the labour market dynamics and offering policy recommendations for improved working conditions and employment outcomes for the three most disadvantaged population sub-groups in Lebanon. A short video documentary was also prepared, portraying real-life experiences to raise awareness about vulnerability and informality within these groups.

Objective
The main objective of this webinar is to launch the report “Assessing Informality and Vulnerability among Disadvantaged Groups in Lebanon: A Survey of Lebanese, and Syrian and Palestinian Refugees” and disseminate its findings and recommendations.

The event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the employment and labour market conditions of the three most vulnerable population sub-groups in Lebanon, both through a short video and a PowerPoint presentation, and raise awareness on the labour market realities, away from prevailing preconceptions.

Language
The webinar will be held in English and Arabic, with simultaneous interpretation from/into both languages.

Location, date and time
The webinar will be held virtually through ZOOM, on 2 September 2021, between 11:00am and 12:15pm Beirut Time.
