Lebanon private domestic worker recruitment agencies review code of conduct

The workshop will review the Code of Conduct adopted by Syndicate of Recruitment Agencies in Lebanon (SORAL) in 2013.

A workshop organized by the ILO will review the Code of Conduct adopted by Syndicate of Recruitment Agencies in Lebanon (SORAL) in 2013 to improve mechanisms that protect migrant domestic workers from discrimination, physical and sexual abuse and other forms of exploitation. Alongside the ILO, 20 to 25 SROAL member agencies will assess the feasibility of implementing the code of conduct in its current form and identify the specific regulations that hinder its implementation. The workshop will also provide a platform for recruitment agencies to express their concerns with respect to placing migrant domestic workers with Lebanese employers.

The event is an activity of the ILO project entitled “Promoting Rights for Women Domestic Workers in Lebanon” (PROWD). PROWD aims to improve the working conditions of migrant domestic workers in Lebanon as well as protect their rights by building the capacity of stakeholders and raising awareness.
