Female unionists enhance role in Jordan trade unions

Women trade unionists meet civil society groups to discuss methods to advance gender equality in the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions.

A group of women from the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), as well as representatives of women civil society organizations and female journalists will meet for a workshop to examine methods to enhance the role of women in workers’ organizations. The workshop—entitled “Women in Trade Unions: Time to Walk the Walk” —will review recommendations and commitments adopted at a Regional Forum on women and trade unions in 2013 which explored ways to strengthen mechanisms of integrating women in trade unions’ structures as well as build synergies between trade unions and civil society organizations towards common goals.

The workshop is part of a series of activities undertaken by the ILO project "Strengthening Workers' Organizations in Arab Countries through Economic, Social and Legal Literacy", which seeks to develops the capacity of workers’ organizations in the Arab region] to participate effectively in policy debates, influence public decisions, and defend workers’ rights and interests.
