Drafting a manual on Youth Rights at Work in Jordan

The ILO will bring together representatives from the government, trade unions, chambers of industry and commerce, employers and youth organizations to discuss the drafting of the Jordanian "Youth Rights at Work" manual.

The International Labour Organization will bring together representatives from the government, trade unions, chambers of industry and commerce, employers, youth organizations and young women and men to discuss the drafting of the Jordanian ‘’Youth Rights at Work’’ manual, which will outline the rights, entitlements and responsibilities of young women and men entering the world of work in Jordan, with particular focus on their protection from gender-based discrimination.

The on-day meeting will allow key players to discuss relevant issues to be drafted in the manual, which will better prepare young people to manage their first work experience.

International conventions, national labour laws and collective agreements define the conditions under which young women and men enter the labour market. Yet, young women and men in general seem to lack knowledge of their rights in the labour market, and the skills to defend their rights. Therefore, it is essential to provide young people with the information and the skills needed.

Objectives:

  • Knowledge exchanging on experiences in promoting youth rights at work
  • Agreeing on the format and the table of content for the under developing Jordanian version of the manual on youth rights at work
  • Identifying the role and support of the different related stakeholders and partners in developing the manual and implementing the related activities
