Training on collective bargaining in the Jordanian construction sector

Collective bargaining training for workers, employers and government officials aims to empower migrants working in the construction sector.

The ILO will organize a two-phase training programme on collective bargaining for workers and employers in Jordan’s construction sector, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Labour. The training programme falls within the framework of the ILO project “Protecting Migrant Worker’s Rights in Jordan,” which aims to ensure better protection and services for workers, help trade unions empower migrant workers, improve labour-management cooperation and collective bargaining in the construction sector, as well as support the Ministry of Labour in fulfilling its vital role to protect migrant workers’ rights.

The first training phase will cover basic concepts of collective bargaining and focus on parties, procedures, techniques and negotiation skills. This phase comprises three separate training courses for each group of participants: workers, employers and public officials. The phase is meant to enhance knowledge of labour rights and promote sound industrial relations in the work environment.

A second intermediate-level training phase will take place in the coming months and target the same working groups. At that time, participants will be offered case studies on collective bargaining and utilize information and skills developed in the first phase. The second phase will also include joint sessions where workers and employers will be asked to tackle cases where collective bargaining can be applied in the Jordanian context.
