Technical Meeting on labour law amendments relevant to pay equity and child labour

To discuss possible amendments to the present Labour Law No. 8 of 1996 and its related Interim Act no. 26 of 2010 to be presented to the Government in August 2013.

The Labour and Development Committee of the House of Parliament of Jordan is discussing possible amendments to the present Labour Law No. 8 of 1996 and its related Interim Act no. 26 of 2010 to be presented to the Government in August 2013.

The ILO has a longstanding collaboration with the Government of Jordan and has provided extensive technical assistance on a number of topics. Of current relevance to the planned discussions on labour amendments is the work done on pay equity and the elimination of child labour.

In response to a request of the Committee to provide technical assistance on revisions to the Labour Law in relation to Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work with particular focus on equal remuneration and child labour elimination, the ILO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, the National Steering Committee on Pay Equity (NSCPE) and the Legal Technical Sub-Committee of the National Committee on Child Labour (NCCL) is supporting a technical meeting to provide the requested assistance.

  • To discuss findings and recommendations of the “Pay Equity Policy Oriented Legal Review”, May 2013
  • To discuss amendments to labour legislation in relation to child labour
