Towards Closing the Gender Pay Gap
Launch of an in-depth study on the gender pay gap in Jordan's private education sector and the recommendations of a review of national legislation
The National Steering Committee on Pay Equity (NSCPE) in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) will launch the findings of an in-depth study on the gender pay gap in Jordan’s private education sector. It will also present recommendations of its legal review on national legislation.
It is part of the NSPCE’s national campaign to promote effective means to close the gender pay gap through the amendment of Jordanian legislation in line with ILO Equal Remuneration Convention, 1951 (No. 100), which promotes equal pay for all workers.
The meeting will bring together policy makers, including Dr Nidal Katamine, Jordan’s Minister of Labour and Minister of Transport, parliamentarians, trade unions, academics, civil society groups, gender experts and international donors.
The NSCPE was launched in 2011 by the Ministry of Labour, the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), and the ILO to promote the principle of equal pay for work of equal value in Jordan and to take the lead in developing and implementing an Action Plan for Pay Equity.
