Diplomatic missions seek to better protect migrant domestic workers' rights

A meeting to discuss challenges and opportunities facing migrant domestic workers at the level of recruitment process, and understanding the role of the embassies and labour offices in assisting the workers in grievance procedures.

As part of its EU and SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation) funded project ”Promoting Rights of Migrant Domestic Workers-PROWD”, labour attaches and representatives of diplomatic missions from countries of origin of migrant workers with a focus on migrant domestic workers are meeting in Beirut on Friday, May 17 to discuss ways of promoting a more consultative dialogue to eliminate the recurrent problems facing migrant workers. The meeting will discuss challenges and opportunities facing migrant domestic workers at the level of recruitment process, and understanding the role of the embassies and labour offices in assisting the workers in grievance procedures.

Participants include ambassadors and labour attaches representing the following countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sudan, and Kenya.
