Support to Palestine refugees in Lebanon

Despite reforms to enable Palestine refugees to work more freely in Lebanon, it will take a lot of effort to break the cycle of poverty, unemployment and insecurity among the Palestine refugee population. One of the main challenges to bringing about the necessary policy changes to allow Palestinians access to social and economic rights in Lebanon is the lack of reliable and objective data on the issue. As such, the ILO initiated a project to develop a reliable and objective information base on Palestinian employment and social protection in Lebanon, while also advocating for legislative and policy changes in relation to access to employment, social protection, and decent work through social dialogue. Palestine refugee youth in particular are subject to economic pressures that complicate prospects for a better future. Many are frustrated, disillusioned and see no purpose in continuing their education in the absence of work opportunities. To respond to this situation, the ILO has taken action to mitigate the risk of violent conflict through socio-economic development and peace building. See more…

The ILO is also focuses its interventions on female Palestine refugees in Lebanon in order to empower them to enter the labour force and play an active role. Accordingly, the ILO has launched project efforts to increase income and improve decent work conditions for female entrepreneurs in Palestine refugee camps in Lebanon. See more…

Finally, the ILO has been actively engaged in Local Economic Recovery and the provision of employment services for Palestine refugees, especially in the aftermath of recent conflicts. With assistance from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the ILO launched a project to provide employment services for Palestine refugees in South Lebanon, in order to contribute to poverty reduction and social inclusion of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon through skills development and employment generation.
