Pay Equity

The ILO’s work on Pay Equity aims to promote the implementation of the ILO Equal Remuneration Convention, 1951 (No.100) through a methodology that includes the following activities:
  • Conducting policy awareness workshops;
  • Assisting in the formation of national committees on pay equity with research, training, advocacy, and legislative change components; and
  • the compilation of national situation assessments and policy briefs.
The ILO’s Equal Pay Introductory Guide and the Gender Neutral Job Evaluation Guide are key resource tools to understand pay equity and determine if two jobs that differ in content are equal in value. The guides, which are available in Arabic, are intended to fight wide spread wage discrimination globally and raise women’s labour force participation rates.

Among the Arab states, Jordan is the only country where the methodology has been initiated through a policy oriented legal review and a pay equity study in the education sector. A video on pay equity in Jordan has also been developed and is applicable to all countries in the Arab States.
