ILO Gender Campaign-Youth employment: Breaking barriers for young women and men

The ILO is running a year-long campaign focusing on gender issues in the world of work. Entitled "Gender Equality at the heart of decent work" the campaign will highlight a different theme every month, in preparation for a debate at the 2009 International Labour Conference. The August theme is Youth employment: breaking barriers for young women and men.

XVIII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work

Over 4,000 industry leaders, policy-makers and specialists has attended the largest international event on occupational safety and health, the  World Congress on Safety and Health at Work, organized in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 29 June-2 July 2008. Jointly organized by the ILO and the International Social Security Association (ISSA).   it aims at contributing to the development of a ‘preventative safety and health culture’, under the theme "Safety and health at work: A societal responsibility".  The XVIII World Congress is hosted by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA).

World Day Against Child Labour: 12th June

Using the theme "Education: the right response to child labour", at least 12 countries in Asia-Pacific marked the World Day Against Child Labour on 12th June with interesting activities, from rallies to essay competitions.

ILO's 97th International Labour Conference

The 2008 International Labour Conference discussed a wide range of work-related topics, including rural poverty reduction, enhancing skills development, the global food crisis and and the adherence of member states to international labour standards. More than 4,000 delegates - employers, workers and government representatives - from the ILO's 182 member states took part.

Report on labour migration in Thailand

An ILO report, "The Economic Contribution of Migrant Workers to Thailand: Towards Policy Development" shows how Thailand benefits from 1.8 million migrant workers in the country.

5th KILM Report Analyses Labour Productivity

The latest "Key Indicators of Labour Market" report has been published and shows rapid increases in productivity in East Asia, with lesser advances in South Asia and South East Asia and the Pacific. The report uses 20 indicators, covering type, status and levels of employment, pay, characteristics of job seekers, productivity and working poverty.
