The work of the ILO in Cambodia
Cambodia joined the ILO in 1969, the same year that the Organization was honoured with the Nobel
Peace Prize. Sadly the country was embroiled in war in Southeast Asia at this time, and would soon
experience the genocidal destruction of the Khmer Rouge regime. With the end of the Cold War in the
early 1990s, the UN assisted Cambodia in its transition to a democratic society, and the ILO’s work in
the country began during this period. This publication discusses some of the work accomplished by
the Government and people of Cambodia over these past 17 years.
