Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  1. Employment Promotion in Disaster Response

    1 February 2015 - 31 January 2016

    The project aims to support in developing, demonstrating and disseminating a regional strategy or approach to promote employment creation in post-natural disaster recovery, reconstruction and development work. Whilst many countries in Asia and the Pacific region have experienced a large number of disasters every year, they have accumulated a rich body of knowledge and experience on how to prepare for and recover from natural hazards. The project is expected to contribute to further advancing this knowledge and the exchange of such knowledge and mutual learning between countries in the Region that are prone to large-scale and/or frequent natural disasters.

  2. Scaling Up: Skills For Trade & Economic Diversification (STED) Myanmar

    1 January 2015 - 31 December 2016

    The “Scaling up: Skills for Trade and Economic Diversification (STED) Myanmar” Project aims to improve the outcomes of Myanmar’s skill trainings and link them to the country’s export growth for more and better jobs in the selected export sectors (Tourism and Agriculture).

  3. Trade Unions for Social Justice

    1 January 2015 - 29 February 2016

    The project aims to promote International Labour Standards and Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and supports the trade unions’ campaign for the ratification of Core Labour Standards.

  4. Promoting the Right to Freedom of Association and the Right to Collective Bargaining (FOACB)

    1 January - 31 December 2015

    The Project will contribute to improving labour-relations in Sri Lanka.

  5. Technical Support for Enhancing the National Capacity to Prevent and Reduce Child Labour in Viet Nam (ENHANCE)

    1 January 2015 - 30 June 2024

    This project contributes to the prevention and progressive elimination of child labour in Viet Nam through supporting the National Plan of Action on the Prevention and Reduction of Child Labour.

  6. Support to Implement Youth Employment Policies and Coordinating for Youth Employment in Sri Lanka

    1 January - 31 December 2015

  7. Testing methodologies to support informal economy workers and small producers to combat hazardous child labour in their own sectors (India Component with IndustriALL Global)

    1 January - 31 December 2015

    The project aims to build the capacity of informal economy workers to address hazardous child labour.

  8. Local Economic Development through Tourism (LED) Project

    1 January - 31 December 2015

    The Project contributes to poverty reduction, sustainable job creation and peace building through an improved environment with strengthened governance, effective community-based services and public-private partnership that economically empower vulnerable groups in conflict-affected populations in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka.

  9. Strengthening the Performance of the Social Insurance System in Viet Nam through Improved Legislation and Legal Framework for Social Insurance (Phase 2)

    1 January 2015 - 31 December 2016

    The project aims to help strengthen the quality and performance of the legislation and legal framework for social insurance in Viet Nam, thus improve the performance of the country’s social insurance system and contribute to the national economic development and social security.

  10. Enterprise Development, Growth and Enhancement (EDGE)

    1 January - 25 December 2015

    EDGE is an innovative training approach for employers’ organizations and business associations to assist their SME members develop the skills needed to improve productivity, competitiveness, and working conditions.

  11. Community-Based Enterprise Development (C-BED)

    C-BED is a low cost, easy to implement training approach designed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to help institutions support entrepreneurs and micro-business owners start new businesses or improve existing businesses.

  12. Country Level Engagement and Assistance to Reduce Child Labour (CLEAR)

    31 December 2014 - 31 March 2016

    A project funded by the United States Department of Labor (USDOL) that aims to enhance the capacity of the Philippines to reduce child labour by supporting its actions in addressing the recommendations contained in the "Finding on the Worst Forms of Child Labor Report" of the USDOL. These actions are in the areas of: enforcement of child labour laws, including through labour inspectors, enabling the education system and social protection schemes to better address child labour, and ensuring the elimination of child labour in domestic work.

  13. Labour Market Information and Employment Services (LIfE)

    22 December 2014 - 31 August 2018

    The project aims to implement commitments of the G20 Development Working Group in the area of human resources development by supporting target countries in designing; implementing and assessing improvements in selected building blocks of their skills development systems in order to better connect training to productive and decent work. Improving the quality of employment services through strengthened client orientation and capacity building of employment service centres and their officials; improving the collection and dissemination of labour market information and skill indicators; and knowledge sharing under the ILO South-South cooperation Framework will be the core components of this project.

  14. SafeYouth@Work Project: Building a Generation of Safe and Healthy Workers

    The US Department of Labor-funded SafeYouth@Work project aims to promote the occupational safety and health (OSH) of young workers, with a focus on those aged 15 to 24.

  15. Building a Generation of Safe and Healthy Workers

    The project, funded by the United States Department of Labor (USDOL) aims to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) conditions of young workers, and promote a culture of prevention in the country. It targets young workers aged 15 to 24 years old in construction, manufacturing and agriculture, considered among the dangerous sectors.

  17. Building the Capacity of the Philippines Labour Inspectorate

    15 December 2014 - 31 August 2018

    The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) of the Philippines has undertaken initiatives to strengthen its Labour Law Compliance System (LLCS). The new LLCS promotes a culture of voluntary compliance on general labour and occupational safety and health (OSH) standards among companies, through the participation of both workers and employers in the joint assessments and implementation of corrective action plans.

  18. Building a generation of safe and healthy workers - SafeYouth@Work

    1 December 2014 - 18 December 2018

    The global project of which Viet Nam is a pilot country seeks to make workplace safer and healthier for young workers, aged 15-24 years, and to promote a culture of prevention on occupational safety and health.

  19. Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains: A Programme of Action for Asia and the Garment Sector in Cambodia

    The development objective of the Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains (LSGSC) project is to improve the lives of workers and increase decent work opportunities in global supply chains (GSCs) in the garment sector, starting with the project’s beneficiary countries: Cambodia, Indonesia and Pakistan. The project’s programme of action includes interventions at factory-level and country-level as well as global and Asia regional components.
