Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  1. National Rural Employment Strategy in Lao People's Democratic Republic towards increasing opportunities for decent and productive employment in rural areas

    1 May 2017 - 31 December 2020

    At the request of the Government of Lao People's Democratic Republic, and aligning with the United Nations Partnership Framework (UNPF) for Lao People's Democratic Republic (2017-21) and the ILO Decent Work Country Programme for Lao People's Democratic Republic (2017-21), the ILO has been working to develop an approach to reducing poverty through promoting employment in the rural areas.

  2. Enhancing Occupational Safety and Health Standards in Construction Sector in Cambodia

    1 April 2017 - 31 December 2022

    The project aims to address occupational safety and health (OSH) in hazardous industries in Cambodia, strengthen national OSH systems in line with the on-going national OSH programmes, and improve OSH standards at workplace level.

  3. SEA Fisheries Project (Strengthened Coordination to Combat Trafficking in Fisheries in South East Asia)

    1 April 2017 - 31 July 2020

    The Project aims to reduce human trafficking in the fishing sector by strengthening coordination and increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of existing national and regional level anti-trafficking efforts in South East Asia. A regional coordination body will be established to support collaborative approaches, develop and implement joint strategies, and share information.

  4. Rural Road for Development (R4D) – Phase II

    1 April 2017 - 30 June 2021

    The Roads for Development Program (R4D) is the leading rural roads program in Timor-Leste, supporting the development of the rural roads sector in the country. R4D is aligned with the Government of Timor-Leste’s Strategic Development Plan 2011- 2030 and the Programs of the Constitutional Government.

  5. Promoting Decent Work on Oil Palm Plantation in Indonesia

    16 March 2017 - 30 June 2019

    The overall objective of the project is to promote sustainable rural livelihoods through decent work conditions and opportunities for workers on Indonesia’s oil palm plantations.

  6. Building a Generation of Safe and Healthy Workers – Safe & Healthy Youth (Safeyouth@work)

    1 January 2017 - 31 July 2019

    The Project aims to improve occupational safety and health of young workers above the minimum age of work (15) up to 24 years and develop a culture of prevention in Indonesia.

  7. Skills 21 – Empowering citizens for inclusive and sustainable growth

    1 January 2017 - 30 June 2023

    Skills 21 project is a joint initiative of the Government of Bangladesh and the International Labour Organization (ILO), funded by the European Union. The project seeks to increase productivity and employment opportunities for young people through support for the development of an inclusive technical and vocational training system responding to the needs of the labour market.

  8. Youth 4 OSH: OSH for Young Workers and Young Employers in Global Supply Chains —Building a Culture of Prevention

    1 January 2017 - 31 July 2019

    The project seeks to reduce workplace injuries, fatalities, and occupational diseases through increased preventative safety actions by young workers and young employers in Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Viet Nam.

  9. GSP+ Beneficiary Countries to Effectively Implement International Labour Standards and Comply with Reporting Obligations

    24 November 2016 - 31 August 2019

    The project, funded by the European Commission, contributes to better application of freedom of association and right to collective bargaining in the Philippines, focusing on measures to better address allegations concerning violation of workers’ rights in the context civil liberties.

  10. Skills for Migration

    1 November 2016 - 31 October 2017

    The project aims at strengthening institutions and mechanisms that link skill training and migration.

    Support for Labour Law and Industrial Relations Reform in Malaysia

    1 October 2016 - 31 December 2026

    The overall objective of this project is increased compliance with labour law and ILO fundamental principles and rights at work.

  13. International Labour and Environmental Standards Application in Pakistan’s SMEs (ILES)

    1 September 2016 - 30 September 2024

    In partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan, the ILO office for Pakistan supports tripartite partners and other stakeholders to strengthen national labour and environmental standards compliance with international standards to increase competitiveness, sustainable and inclusive growth in Pakistan. The project’s interventions in selected enterprises in textile and leather sectors also develops business cases for compliance with labour and environmental standards.

  14. Support to trading partners including GSP+ beneficiary countries to effectively implement ILS and comply with reporting obligations

    1 September 2016 - 31 January 2019

    The project will Support and collaborate with ILO’s tripartite constituents and other relevant stakeholders in application of ILO C-100 (Equal Remuneration Convention - 1951) and ILO Convention C-111 (Discrimination- Employment and Occupations - 1958).

  15. Fostering an Enabling Environment for Livelihoods Development in Vulnerable and At Risk Communities through Entrepreneurship and Microenterprise Skills

    1 September 2016 - 31 December 2017

    This project has set out to provide technical support to institutions and organizations implementing the C-BED programme by developing the capacity of partners to provide, sustain, and scale up interventions that improve livelihoods opportunities and decent work in vulnerable and at risk communities through entrepreneurship and micro-enterprise development.

  16. Rights at Work: Promoting Harmonious Labour Relations through Collective Bargaining in China

    29 August 2016 - 29 February 2020

    The project is to strengthen collective bargaining processes and institutional capacity for more inclusive & sound labour relations at various levels.

  17. Support GSP+ Beneficiary Countries to Effectively Implement ILS and Comply with Reporting Obligations – Mongolia

    1 August 2016 - 31 January 2019

    The project addresses informality especially through the strengthened capacity of workers’ and employers’ organizations to represent their constituencies in the informal economy.

  18. MNG 102: Quality Employment Promotion Is Mainstreamed in National Policies and Programmes – Mongolia

    1 July 2016 - 31 December 2017

    The project aims to improve national statistical and analytical capacities in decent work including SDG’s decent work indicators, and participation of workers’ and employers’ organizations in national policy debates and discussions on decent work.

  19. Promoting Decent Work in Plantation Sector in Sri Lanka

    1 July 2016 - 30 June 2018

    Promoting Decent Work in Tea Plantation Sector in Sri Lank is a two year project funded by the International Labour Organisation. Overall objective of the project is to “promote decent work opportunities and inclusive economic growth in the tea plantation sector in Sri Lanka”.

  20. Improving Labour Relations for Decent Work and Sustainable Development in the Myanmar Garment Industry (ILO – GIP)

    1 June 2016 - 31 May 2020

    The ILO-GIP project aims to reduce poverty and contribute to the empowerment of Myanmar women working in the garment industry by improving labour relations, social dialogue and gender equality.
