Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  1. Trade for Decent Work Project

    1 January 2019 - 31 December 2023

    The project supports the effective implementation of the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter of the EU- Viet Nam free trade agreement (EVFTA), contributing to sustainable global trade with social justice. It is part of the global project “Trade for Decent Work” supporting a number of target countries, including Viet Nam.

  2. Formal Employment is Promoted for Inclusive and Diversified Economic Growth in Mongolia

    1 January 2019 - 31 December 2021

    The project, funded from the ILO Regular Budget Supplementary Account, focuses on facilitating progressive transitions from the informal to the formal economy in in Mongolia. The actions under the project will give effect to the ILO’s roadmap for “Effective ILO development cooperation in support of the Sustainable Development Goals” and the ILO Transitions from the Informal Economy to the Formal Economy Recommendation, 2015 (No 204). Further it provides support to the government in addressing the Direct Request of the ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations on Mongolia’s application of the Employment Policy Convention No 122.

  3. Trade for Decent Work

    1 January 2019 - 31 December 2023

    Rights at work: Support the Implementation of the Sustainability Compact. A Sustainability Compact to promote continuous improvements in labour rights and factory safety in the Ready Made Garment and Knitwear Industry in Bangladesh was launched on 8 July 2013.

  4. Better Work Programme in Indonesia - Stage IV

    1 January 2019 - 31 December 2027

    The Project aims to improve working conditions and productivity in targeted employment-intensive sectors by improving compliance with international core labour standards and Indonesian labour law. In tandem, the project will promote productivity and competitiveness of enterprises linked to the Indonesian global supply chain.

  5. Technical support to ESIS for improving and expanding access to health care services in India – A transition to formality

    19 December 2018 - 31 December 2023

    The overall objective of the project is to provide technical support to Indian Employee State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) for improving and expanding access to health care services.

  6. Achieving SDGs and ending poverty through Universal Social Protection

    1 December 2018 - 30 June 2021

    The implementation partners (UN DESA and ILO) will build on the methodology of the ILO's Global Flagship Programme on Building Social Protection Floors for All (2016-30) at the country level, combined with a global component to focus on the development of practical knowledge base.

  7. Integrated Programme on Fair Recruitment (FAIR) - Phase II - Nepal

    1 November 2018 - 31 December 2021

    The project aims to contribute to the promotion of fair recruitment practices across specific migration corridors.

  9. Post-disaster Livelihood Recovery and Rehabilitation in Kerala

    15 October 2018 - 29 February 2020

    The project with financial support from ILO/Japan fund towards “Post-disaster Livelihood Recovery and Rehabilitation in Kerala” contributed towards rebuilding “Employment” sector in Kerala, thereby improving resilience on various world of work issues.

  10. Migrants Rights and Decent Work Project (MiRiDeW)

    1 October 2018 - 30 June 2023

    The project focuses on strengthening service delivery capacity of diplomatic missions in major destination countries; supporting Government of Nepal to be prepared and positioned better in regional and global migration related fora and reflect back its commitments; and promote new destinations or sectors in existing destinations for low-skilled Nepalese workers.

  11. Global Action to Improve the Recruitment Framework of Labour Migration (REFRAME)

    1 September 2018 - 31 January 2021

    The overall objective of REFRAME is to contribute in reducing abusive practices and violations of human and labour rights and enhancing the protection of migrant workers during the recruitment process.

  12. Paving the Way for a Sustainable Natural Stone Industry in India

    1 August 2018 - 31 May 2022

    The overall objective of the project is to provide technical guidance to tripartite partners in Rajasthan to develop a state-wide strategy to pave the way for a sustainable natural stone industry in India, paying particular attention to the situation of women and youth.

  14. Local Empowerment through Economic Development and Reconciliation (LEED+) Project

    The LEED+ project builds on successes of the Local Empowerment through Economic Development (LEED) Project. From 2011-2018, LEED has helped to reduce poverty, create sustainable jobs and build the peace in northern Sri Lanka.

  15. Sustaining strengthened national capacities to improve International Labour Standards compliance and reporting in relevant EU trading partners

    1 April 2018 - 31 March 2020

    The EU Special Incentive Arrangement for Sustainable Development and Good Governance ('GSP+) was granted to Pakistan in January, 2014. Continuity of GSP+ is conditioned on better compliance and reporting on 27 UN conventions including the eight fundamental labour standards of the ILO. The EU monitors the compliance through multiple means including a biennial assessment. The EU’s 2018 assessment covering the period 2016 – 2017 stated that there had been some progress and commitment to improving the implementation of the ILO fundamental conventions. This project funded by the European Union, will continue to assist ILO’s tripartite constituents in Pakistan to strengthen their efforts towards better compliance and reporting on the ILO’s fundamental conventions.

  16. ILO-FCDO Partnership Programme on Fair Recruitment and Decent Work for Women Migrant Workers in South Asia and the Middle East – Phase II (Nepal)

    The Work in Freedom is an integrated programme to support mobility by choice among women and girls from destination countries (India, Bangladesh and Nepal) to decent jobs with safety and dignity of workers in destination countries (India, Lebanon, Jordan, Oman and Kuwait) through fair recruitment processes.

  17. Work in Freedom, Phase II - Fair recruitment and decent work for women migrant workers in South Asia and the Middle East

    1 April 2018 - 31 March 2024

    The Work in Freedom is an integrated programme to support mobility by choice among women and girls from countries of origin (India, Bangladesh and Nepal) to decent jobs with safety and dignity of workers in destination countries (India, Lebanon and Jordan) through fair recruitment processes.

  18. Supporting the Implementation of Sustainable Social Protection Floors for the Workers and Their Families in ASEAN – Phase II

    1 April 2018 - 31 December 2020

    The second phase of the project aims to strengthen regional exchanges on best practices, especially development of social insurance in the Republic of Korea as a source of inspiration for countries in the early stage of developing their own systems.

  19. Establishing and Enhancing An Overall Occupational Safety and Health Framework in Myanmar and Lao PDR

    1 April 2018 - 31 December 2020

    The project aims to continue to establish the essential pillars of sustainable national OSH systems in Myanmar and Lao PDR, support constituents to adopt improved national laws and legislative frameworks in accordance with ILO’s key OSH Conventions, and build capacity of government institutions including strengthening labour inspection.

  20. Promoting ASEAN Initiatives in TVET and Skills for Inclusive Future of Work

    1 April 2018 - 31 December 2020

    The project aims to further strengthen ILO’s support for ASEAN’s initiative on the mutual recognition of skills, AQRF and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and further facilitate regional knowledge sharing on the future directions of skills and TVET strategies for inclusive future of work.
