February 2012

  1. The Launch of a New Publication: “Trade and Employment: From Myths to Facts”

    7 February 2012, Jakarta, Indonesia

    In the era of globalization most economists and policy-makers have asserted, that trade liberalization has a strong potential to contribute to growth and that those effects will be beneficial for employment. However, survey evidence illustrates that negative perceptions of the labour market effects of trade are frequent and persistent among the population, in particular in the industrialized world but increasingly also in developing countries.

  2. Loan administration and management training for indigenous women self-help groups and their counterpart Indigenous Peoples Organizations (SHGs/IPOs)

    7 - 10 February 2012, Butuan City

    Following the necessary institutional assessment and business planning activities, selected members of concerned Indigenous Women Self-Help Groups and their counterpart Indigenous Peoples Organizations will soon come together for a training on loan administration and management. This is being held under the Indigenous Peoples Development Programme ‘s Revolving Livelihood Support Fund (RLSF)

  3. Local Economic Development (LED) policy development and analysis

    7 - 10 February 2012, Manila

    The local government units (LGUs) play a pivotal role in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goal Fund (MDG F) Joint Programme on Alternatives to Migration: Decent Jobs for Filipino Youth in the four pilot provinces, namely Masbate, Antique, Agusan del Sur and Maguindanao.

  4. ILO-IPEC consultant on value chain analysis visits Bukidnon

    7 - 10 February 2012, Bukidnon Province

    The Strategic Development Cooperation - Asia (SDC) will continue work on validating the subsectors initially selected as basis for livelihood activities and subject these to further value chain analysis.

  5. ILO-IPEC consultant conducts field validations in Quezon

    7 - 10 February 2012, Quezon Province

    The Community-based Monitoring System (CBMS) Network conducted field validations on the initial assessment of development plans and processes by the Local Governments Units (LGUs) of Lucena City, Catanauan, and Calauag in the province of Quezon on the eradication of child labour. This is part of the process of training LGUs on gathering data on child labour incidence and using these as inputs in local development plans so that child labour elimination can be targeted.

    A public event organized by the Millennium Development Goal-Fund 2030 Joint Programme on Ensuring Food Security and Nutrition for Children 0-24 Months Old in the Philippines

  7. Review of the strategic convergence support for the formulation of the ancestral domain sustainable development and protection plans (ADSDPP) by the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in Bislig City and the Municipality of Sibagat, Agusan del Sur.

    4 February 2012, Butuan City

    The convergence partners, including the International Labour Organization (ILO), German International Development Agency (GIZ) and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), are set to review their strategy and plans for the provision of support to the Indigenous Peoples IPs in Bislig City and Sibagat, Agusan del Sur in the community-driven participatory formulation of their respective Ancestral Domain Sustainable Development and Protection Plans (ADSDPP).

  8. Workshop to Develop a Code of Conduct for the National Fisheries Association of Thailand, February-May 2012.

    1 February - 31 May 2012, Thailand.

    Under the cooperation between ILO TRIANGLE and the National Fisheries Association of Thailand, a Code of Conduct for employers on the protection of all workers, including migrant workers, in the fishing sector will be developed. The discussion and planning of the Code of Conduct will take into account direct experience from on-site protection of migrant workers - regardless of their legal status - and the protection provisions under the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541 and Ministerial Regulation No.10. Reference will also be made to the ILO Work in Fishing Convention (C.188) and Recommendation (R.199).

  1. Sauna Industry Workshop on Sustainable Business Practices and HIV Vulnerability

    31 January 2012, Bangkok, Thailand

    Workshop consultation to promote model programs and policies for workplace intervention in the sauna industry which address HIV vulnerabilities in line with key principles of Recommendation 200 to be held at Karnmanee Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand on 31 January 2012, 13.30-17.00.

  2. ILO-IPEC consultant conducts field validations in Masbate

    31 January - 3 February 2012, Masbate City, Masbate

    The Community-based Monitoring System (CBMS) Network conducted field validations on the initial assessment of development plans and processes by the Local Governments Units (LGUs) of Masbate City, Cawayan, and Aroroy in the province of Masbate on the eradication of child labour. This is part of the process of training LGUs on gathering data on child labour incidence and using these as inputs in local development plans so that child labour elimination can be targeted.

  3. ILO-IPEC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing in Bukidnon Province

    31 January 2012, Bukidnon Province

    The ILO-IPEC is now ready to provide direct services to child labourers and their families in Bukidnon Province in partnership with reliable agencies.

  4. Finalization of the operational guidelines of the Kayumbyahan Sago Manobo Corporation (KASAMACOR) in Veruela, Agusan del Sur by its Board of Directors

    28 January 2012, Veruela, Agusan del Sur

    The KASAMACOR Board of Directors will meet to finalize the operational guidelines of the corporation based on pertinent initial operational experience and lessons generated. This forms part of the capacity-building process for the Board of Directors and staff of the Corporation.

  5. ILO-IPEC consultant on resource-mapping visits Quezon

    25 - 27 January 2012, Quezon Province

  6. Empowering leaders in Local Economic Development (LED)

    23 - 27 January 2012, Tiara Oriental Hotel, Makati City

    The local government units (LGUs) play a pivotal role in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goal Fund (MDG F) Joint Programme on Alternatives to Migration: Decent Jobs for Filipino Youth in the four pilot provinces, namely Masbate, Antique, Agusan del Sur and Maguindanao.

  7. Destination Management Organization Stakeholders Meeting for Bromo in East Java

    19 January 2012, Bromo, East Java, Indonesia

    The meeting is aimed to share information on the progress of ILO’s Green Jobs in Asia project activities in Indonesia and assess challenges associated with promoting tourism in Bromo. The meeting is also aimed to highlight areas where ILO green jobs in Asia project can assist the development of Bromo’s DMO in 2012.

  8. Project Advisory Committee of Green Jobs in Asia

    17 January 2012, Jakarta, Indonesia

    The meeting is aimed to promote the capacity of ILO constituents to engage in dialogue on green jobs through increased access to reliable sources of data and information on green jobs and training, including on the employment impacts of environment-related policies and good practices on green jobs.

  9. ILO-IPEC consultant conducts field validations in Northern Samar

  10. ILO – SOCSO unemployment insurance project launched in Malaysia

    16 - 17 January 2012, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    The meeting was the follow up of the signing of agreement between the Social Security Organization of Malaysia (SOCSO) and the International Labor Organization to cooperate in the implementation of a project entitled "Facilitating and supporting the design of an unemployment insurance system in Malaysia".

  11. Proposal development workshop for Bukidnon press club

    12 January 2012, Bukidnon Province

    The Bukidnon Press Club (BPC) has expressed interest to be a partner in pursuing a grassroots communications campaign. To help them in developing the concept, a Project Development Seminar was conducted where they were oriented about the work of ILO, IPEC, and the issue of child labour and about Results Based Management.

  12. Ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on the establishment and launching of the DOLE-ILO knowledge corner

    12 January 2012, Intramuros, Manila

    On 12 January 2012, DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz and ILO Country Office Director Lawrence Jeff Johnson signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on the establishment and launching of DOLE-ILO Knowledge Corner at Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Executive Building in Intramuros, Manila.
