  1. Journey of Voices: an exhibition celebrating International Migrants Day in Thailand

    16 - 21 December 2014

    The Saphan Siang campaign and World Vision have collaborated with art collective Public Delivery and artist Phil America to host an exhibition of art installations representing migrant workers’ contributions to fishing communities in Thailand, to coincide with International Migrants Day (18 December).

  2. Policy dialogue of the joint ILO-ADB study “ASEAN Community 2015: Managing integration for better jobs and shared prosperity”

    The policy dialogue of the joint ILO-ADB (Asian Development Bank) report: “ASEAN Community 2015: Managing integration for better jobs and shared prosperity” examines the impact of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) on labour markets through economic model simulations, with the aim of offering evidence-based policy recommendations towards fostering better jobs and equitable growth. The study highlights priorities to address the challenges and opportunities of the AEC in terms of strengthening regional cooperation mechanisms, facilitating structural change and improving job quality, enhancing skills development, boosting productivity and wages, and managing labour migration. This event is expected to raise awareness of AEC for constituents in Japan and will accelerate their involvement to the region.

  3. Trade Union Regional Workshop on Capacity Building of Domestic Workers Organizations and Elimination of Child Domestic Work

    15 - 17 December 2014

    The purpose of this meeting is to provide a forum for trade unions, domestic workers’ organisations and other stakeholders to discuss and share innovative approaches to reduce child domestic work through the promotion of decent work for domestic workers.

  4. Decent Work Debate on the ILO Global Wage Report 2014-15.

    13 December 2014

    Discussion on the ILO’s Global Wage Report and look at wage trends in India with a view to discuss where the benefits have been experienced.

  5. The Visit of Director General of the ILO to Indonesia and Timor-Leste

    10 - 16 December 2014

    The Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr Guy Ryder, will visit to Indonesia and Timor-Leste from 10 to 16 December 2014. This is the first time that a Director General of the ILO comes to both countries. This is an important momentum for the ILO as well as Indonesia and Timor-Leste. They provide an opportunity to discuss and examine labour and employment issues at both global and national levels.

  6. National Triparite Dialogue on ILO's Programme Review in Myanmar

    4 - 5 December 2014

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) Liaison Officer in Myanmar and the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security (MOLES) organized a national tripartite dialogue on the ILO’s Programme in Myanmar at the Mt. Pleasant Hotel, Naypyitaw, Myanmar on 4-5 December 2014. The objectives of the dialogue are to: a. ensure openness and transparency on the ILO’s Programme of work in Myanmar; b. identify areas of possible concern and discuss solutions thereto and; c. confirm that the programme is targeted and meeting the country’s identified needs and priorities with no critical gaps.

  7. Enumerator Training: Mapping of Homeworkers, Home-based Workers and Workers with Disabilities

    4 - 18 December 2014

    Recognizing that it is important to promote decent work for all, including for people with disabilities, it is imperative to collect data on the prevalence, characteristics and working conditions of homeworkers including homeworkers with disabilities in order to document and understand the barriers to decent work that they experience.

    The media can play an important role in removing some barriers in daily lives of persons with disabilities – physical, attitudinal, legal, regulatory, communication – to encourage full participation of persons with disabilities in society and to develop their potential in achieving equal rights and opportunities.

  10. The Launching of the ILO Design Study of the Single Referral System for the Extension of Social Protection in Indonesia

    2 December 2014

    Indonesia is moving towards an integrated social protection system. The Indonesian constitution recognizes the right to social security for all and the responsibility of the state in the development of social security. Law No.24/2011 on the National Social Security System mandates the extension of social security coverage to the whole population in the categories of health, work injury, old age pension, old-age lump-sum, and funeral benefit.

  3. Myanmar initiatives on protecting migrant workers and implementing the ATUC Framework for Decent Work in Labour Migration

    27 - 28 November 2014

    The ASEAN TRIANGLE Project supported this meeting of the ASEAN Trade Union Council (ATUC) and the ITUC – Asia Pacific to discuss initiatives in Myanmar on the protection of migrant workers. The decisions taken at this and by the leaders of ATUC resulted in specific actions to implement the ATUC inter-union agreement for decent work in labour migration and the recommendations of the 7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour.

  4. Second skills governance training workshop for skills development professionals held in Sylhet

    27 - 30 November 2014

    Capacity strengthening workshops for professionals in the skills development sector continued in Sylhet Engineering College from November 27-30, 2014. The goal of the second workshop was to develop monitoring tools to measure the progress of implementation of the National Skills Development Policy in each of the participating agencies.

  5. Technical workshop Maize Development for Farmers in Nusa Tenggara Timur

    27 - 28 November 2014

    As part of the Decent work for food security project, a participatory model for value chain development for decent work and sustainable rural development has been introduced in 13 communities/villages in Kupang district. Thus, the main objective of the workshop is to improve the capacity of 120 maize farmers in Takari and Amabi Oefeto sub districts.

  6. ILO and ECOP Capacitate MSMEs on Labour Law Compliance through Social Dialogue in Cebu City

    25 - 26 November 2014

    Recognizing the key role of micro small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippine economy and the challenges they face in complying with minimum labour standards, the ILO in partnership with the Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) conducted a series of two-day training workshops on “ Capacitating Employers to Implement the Labour Law Compliance System (LLCS) through Social Dialogue”.

  8. Workshop on Combating Child Labour through Skills and Livelihoods Training for Older Children in Jakarta

    The workshop aims to improve the understanding of the livelihood skills training models in the agricultural sector which aims to tackle child labor as well as providing insight to the relevant stakeholder who play the role on child labor and training providers on the model of the training that can be implemented on any training program for out of school adolescents and youths to obtain expertise.

  9. Community-Based Enterprise Development (CBED) on Campus

    C-BED on Campus is an exploration of youth, business and social movement. C-BED is a low-cost, easily implementable participatory training approach on business and management carried out without external trainers or resources.

  10. 7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML)

    The 7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML) is held on 20-21 November 2014 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. The ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour is an open platform for the review, discussion and exchange of the best practices and ideas between governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations, and civil society stakeholders on key issues facing migrant workers in ASEAN. This year, the overall theme of the AFML is “Towards the ASEAN Community by 2015 with enhanced measures to protect and promote the rights of migrant workers”. There also are two subthemes, which are: “Promotion of fair and appropriate employment protection, payment of wages, and adequate access to decent working and living conditions for migrant workers” and “Coordination and role of key stakeholders to set up and implement policies and procedures to facilitate aspects of migration of workers, including recruitment, preparation, protection abroad, and return and reintegration”.
