  1. National Consultation Workshop on Promoting Gender Equality in TVET in Bangladesh

    10 January 2012, Chittagong, Bangladesh

    The workshop was one of the first initiatives of the newly-formed NSDC Secretariat and the CEO; Mr Jiban Kumar Chowdhury took an active role in leading the proceedings and promoting the role of the Secretariat among key TVET stakeholders in Bangladesh.

  2. IPEC consultant conducts field validations in Bukidnon

    9 - 12 January 2012, Bukidnon Province

    The Community-based Monitoring System (CBMS) Network conducted field validations on the initial assessment of development plans and processes by the Local Governments Units (LGUs) of Maramag, Quezon, Valencia City, and Malaybalay City in Bukidnon Province on the eradication of child labour. This is part of the process of training LGUs on gathering data on child labour incidence and using these as inputs in local development plans so that child labour elimination can be targeted.

  1. SM Cinema and ILO partnership on decent work for domestic workers

    25 December 2011 - 7 February 2012, Philippines

    The ILO Country Office for the Philippines in partnership with SM Cinema, the largest cinema exhibitor in the Philippines launched a public service message on “Domestic workers are workers with rights like others. Decent and productive work starts at home.” The 30-second message was first shown at the opening day of the Metro Manila Film Festival 2011 and will be played nationwide in 38 digital theatres of SM Cinema until the first week of February 2012.

  2. Final tripartite consultation on Maritime Labour Convention(MLC)2006.

    20 December 2011, Chittagong, Bangladesh

    Final tripartite consultation on Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 was held at Bangladesh Institute of Administration & Management (BIAM) Foundation, Dhaka on 20 December, 2011. Mr Shajahan Khan, MP, Minister for Shipping was present at the consultation as the Chief Guest.

  3. Career Fair

    17 - 18 December 2011, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

    A career fair was co-organized by Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations (CAMFEBA), National Employment Agency (NEA), UNESCO and the ILO together with Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MOLVT). The fair created a venue for youth and young job seekers and employers to meet and to exchange their perspectives and needs in particular with regard to labour market and recruitment polices. The forum was also galvanised Cambodian youth to consider entrepreneurship and self-employment as viable options for employment. Approximately 60 private companies, financing and training providers and universities and approximately 9,00 visitors participated in the two-day Fair.

  4. Cambodia national youth employment forum

    15 - 16 December 2011, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

    The national youth employment forum was organized under the leadership and coordination of Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MOLVT) together with Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MOEYS), in consultation with the UN Resident Coordinator Office, and in cooperation with UN country team members (UNDP, UNESCO, UNV, and ILO). The forum gathered around 300 key stakeholders working around and directly with youth employment and youth enterprises in Cambodia, including government, private sector, employer and worker representatives, UN agencies, international NGOs, national GOs, youth associations, young people and students. Numerous national and international resource persons, including senior policy makers of the region, representatives of private companies and successful young entrepreneurs also participated as resource persons in the three sessions on productive employment; effective labour market information;, and entrepreneurship and skill development. At the group work, the participants, mostly young women and men, identified key priority areas for action plan on youth employment to be implemented by the government in response to the national policy on Cambodian Youth Development (NPCYD) approved by the royal government of Cambodia on 24 June 2011. The action plan will contribute to the development of a national employment policy in Cambodia with emphasis on youth employment being pursued.

  5. Media and Communication Training For ASEAN Confederation of Employers (ACE)

    15 - 16 December 2011, Thailand

    ACTEMP in collaboration with the ASEAN Confederation of Employers (ACE) is organizing a training workshop on Media and Communication. The objective is to enhance the media and communication skills of ACE members and to allow ACE to gain greater media and public exposure as a reputable regional employers’ organization.

  6. Tripartite endorsement workshop on Decent Work Country Programme for Cambodia (2011-2015)

    14 December 2011, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

    H.E. Vong Sauth, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training (MOLVT) of Cambodia took lead in organizing and presided over the national tripartite endorsement workshop on Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) for Cambodia (2011-2015). The tripartite constituents: MOLVT, Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations (CAMFEBA) and Trade Unions' endorsed the programme and expressed commitment to work together toward the achievement of DWCP which has three priorities (i) improving industrial relations and rights at work; (ii) promoting an enabling environment for decent employment growth; and (iii) improving and extending social protection.

  7. IPEC team year-end assessment meeting

    14 - 16 December 2011, Makati City

    The IPEC team will hold a year-end meeting to assess its performance in 2011, and how to meet challenges in 2012.

  8. IPEC team holds 2011 4th quarter meeting

    13 - 16 December 2011, Makati City

    The IPEC Team reviewed its overall performance for better project implementation in the provinces of Bukidnon, Masbate, Northern Samar, and Quezon. The Team discussed the hindering factors, trouble-shot key areas, and made adjustments on schedules versus delays in the accomplishment of deliverables. The Provincial Coordinators shared their best practices for replication in other areas. Updates on administrative and finance-related concerns were also discussed.

  9. MDG F champion and partners in solidarity series: "Champions and partners, solidarity and recognition night"

    13 December 2011, Makati City

    The Millennium Development Goal Fund (MDG F) Joint Programme on Alternatives to Migration: Decent Work for Filipino Youth is one of the four joint programmes in the Philippines that will be participating in the Champion and Partners in Solidarity Series on 6 and 13 December 2011.

  10. Labour market-responsive entrepreneurship skills training for disadvantaged youth in Maguindanao

    13 December 2011, TESDA-ARMM Training Center, Brgy. Rebuken, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao

    The entrepreneurship training for disadvantaged youth is currently implemented in the four (4) pilot provinces: Masbate, Antique, Maguindanao and Agusan del Sur. It aims to promote entrepreneurship as a career option, a priority to address youth employment challenge. It employs the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB), the entrepreneurship training program of ILO.

  11. Assessors training and assessors certification for ecotourism tour guides

    12 - 17 December 2011, Pasuruan, East Java, Indonesia

    To implement a standard competency based assessment the Workplace Assessor Training and Certification Programmeis planned to take place in Pasuruan East java for 13 trainers who recently graduated from the program’s ECO tour guide TOT program. The assessor training and certification program shall be led by accredited master trainerassisted by an assistant master trainer.

  12. Skills certification for experienced eco tour guides

    12 - 14 December 2011, Pasuruan, East Java, Indonesia

    The objective of the assessment and certification is for the tour guides to be equipped with recognized certification and enable them to serve as trainers of new tour guides and upgrading of less experienced guides. This certification process is one of the identified activities under the green jobs in Asia sector demonstration project.

  13. ILO thematic year-end reception, media recognition and UN photo exhibition featuring development initiatives and partnerships with indigenous peoples

    On 12 December 2011, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Office for the Philippines organized a ‘Thematic Year-End Reception, Media Recognition and UN Photo Exhibition’ featuring development initiatives and partnerships with Indigenous Peoples. The event was held in the context of the implementation of the ILO’s Indigenous Peoples Development Programme (IPDP) which is based in the Caraga Region of northeastern Mindanao.

  14. Expert Meeting on Social Security and Social Protection Floor: Learning from Regional Experiences

    12 - 15 December 2011, Jakarta, Indonesia

    The social protection floor is the basic level of social protection that should be guaranteed to all residents in all countries world wide. Although most Asian countries have already fairly developed social protection mechanisms in place, and are not starting from scratch, there is evidence that in many cases the basic entitlement to the social protection floor is not yet met. This situation is shared in most developing and middle- income countries in the world.

  15. Media Recognition on Indigenous Peoples

    12 December 2011, Manila, Philippines

    “Pagkilala sa mga Natatanging Kuwentong Katutubo” (Recognition of Outstanding stories on Indigenous Peoples) recognizes the efforts of Filipino media practitioners who have been able to provide the audience with “real stories” that contribute to the advocacy on indigenous peoples’ rights. The ILO supports the media recognition, in partnership with Probe Media Foundation Inc. and the Philippine Press Institute, which aims to increase awareness on issues related to indigenous peoples.

  16. Tripartite Workshop on Maritime Labour Convention 2006

    10 December 2011, Chittagong, Bangladesh

    Ministry of Labour and Employment, ILO Country Office, and Bangladesh Marine Academy jointly organized a technical workshop on Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 on 10 December 2011. The main objective of the workshop was to share the gap analysis between MLC and the relevant national legal instruments with the Stakeholders.

  17. National Workshop on Achievements of the ILO/MOLISA/Japan OSH Project

    9 December 2011, Hanoi, Viet Nam

    The objectives of the workshop are to share and assess the project’s achievements as well as discuss on how to sustain the success of the project in the future. The workshop is also an opportunity for participants and enterprises to exchange and share good practices in improving work conditions at the workplaces for further strengthening of occupational safety and health in Viet Nam.

  18. Employment Strategy Seminar

    9 December 2011, Hanoi, Viet Nam

    The seminar focusing on three discussion sessions: (1) Viet Nam employment challenge and mainstreaming employment in the SEDS; (2) improving productive employment: raising productivity and skills in Viet Nam; and (3) institutions for promoting employment; and one squared debate on the strategy with top representatives from the institution involved in the formulation of the employment strategy.
