National Meetings of Labour Migration Data Focal Points; Lao PDR, Cambodia and Indonesia

National level meetings are held in three countries as the following schedule to assist their contribution to the International Labour Migration Statistics (ILMS) third phase, which will commence in July 2015. 1. Lao PDR on 18th February 2015 2. Cambodia on 27th February 2015 3. Indonesia on 02nd March 2015

Reliable statistical information is central to any effective labour market policy in enabling decision makers to monitor trends over time, target arising issues in a precise and timely way, and determine the impact of the policies they introduce. Current gaps in the regular and adequate data collection on Indonesia’s migrant labour force can be seen as a bottleneck for policy development.

The International Labour Organization’s (ILO) ASEAN TRIANGLE Project (ATP) has recently developed the International Labour Migration Statistics (ILMS) Database to gather statistical information on migrant workers in the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). While ASEAN Member States have provided relevant information based on a number of available sources, there are still several key gaps and missing information. National level meetings are being held in three countries to assist their contribution to the ILMS third phase, which will commence in July 2015.
