Thai Youth Forum on Migration and Human Trafficking

A Forum for Thai youth to discuss and make recommendations on how to prevent youth and migrant children from being exploited or trafficked.

Type: Workshop
When: 30 August - 3 September 2010
Where: Khao Yai, Thailand
Contact(s): Max Tunon, Technical Officer, Tripartite Action to Protect Greater Mekong Subregion Migrants from Labour Exploitation (TRIANGLE) Project

Thirty young people from across Thailand will participate in a youth forum on migration and human trafficking. The forum is the third of its kind, following events held in Bangkok in 2004 and 2007. As in previous years, the ILO has teamed up with Save the Children, World Vision and UNIAP to co-organize this event. This year, the Royal Thai Government will also play a leading role in the organization, through the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and the Bureau on Anti Trafficking in Women and Children.

The discussions provide an opportunity for young people with direct experience of trafficking and migration to give feedback on challenges they face, and put forward recommendations for future action. Five participants from the Thai forum will attend the Mekong Youth Forum in October, together with youth from five other countries in the Subregion (i.e. Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam).
