Strategic Collective Bargaining for Employers - Road Show

Collective Bargaining is still not well known and not well used by many South East Asian countries. It is important for employers to understand that collective bargaining is one of important business tools and when used well it will give business both commercial and operational advantage. Strategic collective bargaining will improve productivity, efficiency and competitiveness of the business.

Background

A 2 day workshop has been carefully planned in co-operation with International Organization of Employers (IOE). The programme, materials and 180 page guide on strategic collective bargaining was specially designed by IOE and ACTEMP for the purpose of this 2 week road show that covers four countries: Cambodia, Vietnam, Mongolia and China. A number of international and domestic case studies will be discussed during the workshop. There will be three presenters - Scott Barklamb, Senior Adviser from IOE, Ravi Peiris, Director General of The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon and Dragan Radic, Senior Specialist on Employer's Activities, ILO Bangkok.

The course covers 6 modules:

1. Introduction to Collective Bargaining

2. Strategic Collective Bargaining

3. The Law

4. Negotiation

5. Written Collective Agreement

6. Implementation, Evaluation and Re-Negotiation

By the end of the course, the participants will acquire:

1. A better understanding of:

• Strategic collective bargaining - make the most out of CBA

• Enterprise and Multi Employer Collective Bargaining

• Legal/Institutional Framework of Collective Bargaining Negotiations

• Rights of Employers and Employees in CBA negotiations

• Processes of Bargaining

2. Improve skills and competencies in:

• Preparation for Collective Bargaining

• Techniques in Bargaining Negotiations

• What to do and not to do before, during and after negotiations

• Achieving better outcomes for employers out of CBA’s

3. Knowledge of:

• Drafting of the Bargaining Agreement

• Implementing the Agreement

• Administering the Agreement

• Evaluating and Re-Negotiating the Agreement
