Introduction
This international seminar will draw on the outcomes of the ILO/Japan-JILPT Networking of Institutes for Labour Studies’ fifth round of joint investigative studies. The project is implemented by the ILO/Japan Multi-bilateral programme, with financial support from the Japan Institute for Labour Policy and Training. It focuses on the impact of global financial crisis on the Global Production Networks, especially sectors like textile and garment, food and agri-business and information and telecommunication.
Academicians (professors, students, researchers) from universities in Bangkok will join the event, along with researchers from 15 countries in Asia-Pacific, who have carried out research studies on employment and working conditions in global production networks.
The seminar is organised in cooperation Thammasat University and is expected to contribute to the policy debate on economic recovery and decent jobs in Thailand and in the Asia-Pacific region.
Main issues to be discussed
§ The impact of the global financial crisis on Thailand and the assessment of measures taken by the government
§ Global Production Networks – linkages between economic and social upgrading
§ Jobs in Global Production Networks in time of crisis and recovery – in particular in the sectors of textile and garment, food and agri-business and information and telecommunication.
