Objectives of the meeting
The conclusions concerning the promotion of sustainable enterprises (ILC 2007) identified that Governments “should promote, facilitate and raise awareness of CSR, taking into account the specific needs of SMEs, and support efforts of the social partners to jointly address issues of CSR..” The Workshop is aimed at building the capacities of tripartite partners in addressing the issue of CSR among SMEs by increasing the understanding of international benchmarks in the area of CSR including the ILO’s Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and the OECD Guidelines on Multinational Enterprises; providing a forum to share information and views on the opportunities and challenges associated with CSR in SMEs, particularly in the context of the current global financial and economic crisis; sharing information and effective practices on how countries promote CSR and SME development; and identification of areas of technical assistance and possible technical cooperation projects in regard to CSR and SME development.
