    Thai Unions to promote decent work for persons with disabilities

    (ILO Bangkok) The push for greater recognition in the workplace of the rights of people with disabilities has received a boost from Thai trade unions. Facilitated by the ILO, representatives of worker organizations met to discuss the role of trade unions in promoting the rights, employability and employment of women and men with disabilities at a workshop in Bangkok, 4-5 March. Following the meeting, it was agreed that a further consultation of people with disabilities would be conducted by worker organizations before approaching the authorities to advocate on their behalf.

    International Women's Day: A dozen countries in Asia-Pacific say 'yes' in principle to international labour standard for domestic workers - global discussion at ILC in June

    (Bangkok) Governments, worker and employer organizations in Asia and the Pacific have indicated their general support – in principle – of setting a new international labour standard which could offer better social protection to millions of domestic workers – defined as women and men – who earn their living by working in the homes of others.

    Climate change resiliency: helping Agusan del Norte farming communities

    Everyday farmers are facing the effects of El Niño or long dry spell. About one-half of the Filipino labour force is engaged in agriculture. Farms are drying up due to climate change which can have a huge impact of incomes of farmers. The International Labour Organization (ILO) highlighted the need for innovative ways to avoid further damage on crops and incomes of farmers.

    Decent work approach to recovery urged by Pacific Island labour ministers and social partners

    Pacific Island Labour Ministers and social partners have reached an agreement to support a jobs-led recovery by promoting decent work in the Pacific region by adopting the Port Vila Statement on Decent Work and its accompanying ‘Pacific Action Plan for Decent Work’.

    India adopts Decent Work Country Programme

    Representatives of the Government of India, employers' and workers' organizations signed the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Mr P C Chaturvedi, Secretary, Labour & Employment, Government of India, Mr N.M. Adyanthaya, Workers' Member, ILO Governing Body, Mr Y.K. Modi, Employers' Member ILO Governing Body and Ms Leyla Tegmo-Reddy, Director, Subregional Office for South Asia were the signatories to the document.
