Video and audio stories

As part of its advocacy work in Asia Pacific, the ILO produces a range of video products, including news stories, interviews, and other promotional films. Click on the relevant link to view each story. Inquiries about usage or reproduction of any materials should be sent by email.

Note to Broadcasters: ILO videos can also be downloaded in broadcast quality via an internet-protocol TV channel (IPTV). ILO TV contains two sections, giving two download options:

A Channel Player where ILO video productions and video news releases can be watched online, with English narration.

A Video News Manager, hosting downloadable broadcast-quality ILO video productions. Broadcast journalists can preview the footage before downloading, as well as view and print a shot list and script (in English). Video News Manager material is posted in international version (no narration or graphics) allowing broadcasters to record commentary in their own language using their own graphics.

    A talk show on Green Jobs for Youth was hosted by the ILO Green Jobs and Youth Employment programmes in cooperation with Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, Bangkok on 13 December 2012. The talk show was organized in the context of the Expert Group Meeting on Green Growth, Green Jobs for Youth took place in Bangkok on 12-13 December that jointly organized by UNDESA, ESCAP, ILO and UNEP.

    A film on the Green Business Option, a Green Jobs Initiative project in China. It includes stories on: the use of LED lighting to save energy in Chengdu, Sichuan; recycling used clothes by transforming them into handicrafts in Chendu, Sichuan ; recycling used books at a university in Nanjing; and recycling musical instruments in Nanjing. This film was produced in February 2011.

  11. Transitioning to Green Jobs in Sri Lanka

    In Sri Lanka, recycling, and its associated occupations, are becoming more organized thanks to a collaboration between the ILO, municipal government, worker and employer organizations. The Waste Management Authority that manages Colombo's solid waste disposal is creating "green jobs" by formalizing the formerly 'freelance' waste pickers that collect plastics, metals and other materials for re-sale. Up to 4,000 waste pickers have received training by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health to improve their methods of collection while raising awareness about protecting their health at work. Meantime, the ILO has been liaising with the tea and rubber plantation owners to buy bio-compost produced as a by-product of the WMA. Supported by the Australian Government - ILO Partnership Agreement (2010-2015) the outcomes are benefiting many in this transition to green jobs in Sri Lanka.

  12. Greening jobs in Indonesia - One volcano at a Time

    Shot and produced by the International Labour Organization's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, this short video shows how workers, employers, entrepreneurs and the environment can all benefit from the move toward green jobs in Indonesia's tourism sector. The Green Jobs in Asia project, supported by the Australian Government - ILO Partnership Agreement (2010-2015), has been working with two government ministries in Indonesia, training more than 250 tour guides and homestay operators on innovative ways to improve eco-tourism for the benefit of all.

  13. Bringing green energy and green jobs to Bangladesh

    The majority of homes in Bangladesh aren't connected to the national electricity grid.This is particularly true in rural areas away from the main transmission lines. Many homes and shops rely on environmentally unfriendly diesel generators. But the government has been working with the ILO, social partners and civil society groups to train rural people in solar power use. This combines an economic and social need with green jobs' skills and creates entrepreneurial opportunities through the installation and maintenance of solar homes systems. The work is supported by the Australian Government - ILO Partnership Agreement (2010 - 2015).

  16. Making labour migration safer for Laotian workers

    The ILO and Government of Lao PDR are working together to make cross-border labour migration a safer prospect for Laotians wishing to work abroad. Supported by AusAID, the Australian Aid Agency, the ILO's TRIANGLE project and the Laotian government are bringing together job seekers and officially endorsed recruitment agencies to ensure that cross-border migration is safe, legal and profitable for migrants. Allan Dow from the ILO's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific reports.
