As part of its advocacy work in Asia Pacific, the ILO produces a range of video products, including news stories, interviews, and other promotional films. Click on the relevant link to view each story. Inquiries about usage or reproduction of any materials should be sent by email.

Note to Broadcasters: ILO videos can also be downloaded in broadcast quality via an internet-protocol TV channel (IPTV). ILO TV contains two sections, giving two download options:

A Channel Player where ILO video productions and video news releases can be watched online, with English narration.

A Video News Manager, hosting downloadable broadcast-quality ILO video productions. Broadcast journalists can preview the footage before downloading, as well as view and print a shot list and script (in English). Video News Manager material is posted in international version (no narration or graphics) allowing broadcasters to record commentary in their own language using their own graphics.

    Armed conflicts destroy socioeconomic infrastructure, the means of production, natural and human resources, and vast numbers of jobs. When conflict ends, youth employment is critical to stability since young people have a valuable role in the peacebuilding process. In this show, Herve Berger of the ILO discusses the role of youth employment in Afghanistan, the barriers young Afghans face in gaining decent work, and how they can be supported.

  2. Child domestic workers' song: I will reach my dream

    Child domestic workers at a learning centre in the suburbs of Jakarta dances to the tune of "Our song: I will reach my dream". The centre, run by an NGO Mitra Imadel, provides training to child domestic workers. It is operated under the ILO PROMOTE project funded by the US Department of Labor. PROMOTE aims to bring about a lasting end to child domestic labour, focusing on expanding legal protection for child and adult domestic workers. March 2013

  3. Building Social Protection Floor in Thailand

    The UN-Royal Thai Government Joint Team on Social Protection, co-chaired by ILO and MSDHS, conducted an assessment of the social protection situation in Thailand, identified gaps and challenges and drew up recommendations with a view to establishing a Social Protection Floor in Thailand. The final report was launched on 10 May 2013 at the Thai Government House. The event was attended by several Ministers, worker and employer organisations, civil society, academicians, embassies and international organizations.

  5. Creating human security through local economic development

    In Bondoc Peninsula, south-eastern part of Quezon Province in the Philippines, people earn less than US$1 per day. Lack of decent work, extreme poverty and armed conflict pushed people to vulnerable employment and forced them to accept whatever work is available just to survive. The ILO, FAO and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process implemented projects on local economic development, in partnership with the Government of Japan and the UN Trust Fund for Human Security. These projects reached out to over 5,000 individuals, bringing decent work, much needed income, and hope for their families and communities. These projects must continue.

Director Johnson talked about achieving sustained and inclusive growth through decent and productive work. Director Johnson further highlighted the need to address vulnerable employment and to enhance productivity and competitiveness in the Philippines.

  11. Trade unions help migrant workers realise labour rights in Thailand

    Four people from Myanmar, living in Thailand, meet the ILO Director General, Mr Guy Ryder and tell their personal stories about vulnerability and hardship as migrant workers. Thai trade unions, the ILO and a Burmese support group in Thailand are working together to ensure these and other migrant workers can enjoy the same labour rights as Thai workers. The ILO's TRIANGLE project has set up a series of Migrant Worker Resource Centres in Thailand and five other countries of Southeast Asia, supported by AusAID.
