The report has been prepared for participants attending the 2nd ASEAN Human Resource Conference, being held in Hanoi on Tuesday 25th May.

  11. New ILO global report on child labour as effort to end child labour slow, ILO calls for “re-energized” global action

    (ILO Geneva & Bangkok) Amid growing concerns over the impact of the economic downturn, the ILO warned in a new study that efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labour are slowing down and called for a “re-energized” global campaign to end the practice.

    (ILO BANGKOK) – The ILO is to launch a new report on the state of child labour around the world. The report is being launched on the eve of a major global meeting in The Hague, aimed at intensifying efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labour within the next decade. The new ILO Global Report on Child Labour, entitled “Accelerating action against child labour” will be launched worldwide, under embargo, on 7 May.

  14. Viet Nam commits to strengthening legal frameworks for employer-worker negotiations. ILO says workers' and employers' organizations must be able to actively represent the genuine interests of their constituents.

    (ILO Hanoi) Viet Nam has announced it is taking steps to strengthen its legal framework by creating a better environment for workers and employers to settle differences as they arise. The announcement was made at a national conference on the Future of Industrial Relations and the Revision of the Labour Code and Trade Union Law, in Hanoi 1-2 April 2010. The conference was organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office in Viet Nam in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA).

  15. New ILO project to eliminate child labour and its worst forms in Viet Nam

    (ILO Hanoi) The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), ILO and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) today launched a 2.5-million-Euro Project of Support to the Design and Implementation of National Programmes on the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in Viet Nam.

  16. Employment policy, social protection needed to help Cambodian garment workers recover from impacts of economic downturn

    (ILO, Phnom Penh) On the surface, those garment workers who were not laid off as a result of the economic downturn should be considered lucky. But new data from an ILO led survey shows that even those who kept their jobs were not left unscathed – many have had their salaries significantly reduced and now struggle to cover basic living costs.

  18. ILO launches the second phase of collaborative project to prevent labour and sexual trafficking in China

    (ILO Beijing) ILO and the All-China Women Federation (ACWF) have been working in close partnership over the last four years to reduce the trafficking of women and children for labour exploitation. With the support of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the ILO is proud to launch the second phase of its Project to Prevent Trafficking for Labour Exploitation in China (CP-TING – Phase II) in Beijing on 17 March 2010.

  19. ILO IPEC receives the Sahametrei Sena Medal for its contribution towards ending child labour in Cambodia

    (ILO Cambodia) The Royal Government of Cambodia conferred the Sahametrei Sena Medal on Mr. MP Joseph, Chief Technical Advisor of IPEC’s Time Bound Programme Support Project in recognition of the ILO’s work in the area of child labour in Cambodia.

  20. ILO, Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs to discuss green jobs

    The Indonesian Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs in association with the ILO’s Regional Office for Asia Pacific in Bangkok and the ILO Jakarta Office organized a workshop on green jobs at Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 10 March 2010.
