    Tripartite constituents in the Pacific Island nation of Kiribati have commenced a policy process to update labour laws to better apply fundamental ILO Conventions.

    The Ministry of Social Affairs, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) concluded a two-week Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes designed for people with disabilities from 17 to 28 October 2011, at National Vocational Rehabilitation Center, in Cibinong, West Java.

    (ILO News) BANGKOK : Mr Jiyan Wang, Director of the ILO Country Office for Thailand has welcomed the move by Thailand’s employers’ and workers’ organizations to work together and take a joint initiatives to help alleviate the crisis caused by the flooding.

  6. ILO launched “Cash for Work” Project for the flood-affected people in Sindh

    In response to floods in Sindh, ILO has launched “Cash for Work” Project for the flood-affected people in Districts of Badin and Mirpurkhas. Mr. Francesco d’Ovidio, Country Director, ILO office for Pakistan while launching the “Cash for Work for Flood Affected People” project stated, “This project will generate more than 35,000 of person day of employment to the flood affected people”.

  9. ILO-Bappenas to identify constraints to employment growth in provinces

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) will organize a workshop on employment diagnostic analysis (EDA) on 07 October 2011 at Bappenas, Jakarta. The ILO has developed EDA through Promoting Inclusive Job-Rich Growth Project funded centrally through Stockholm and Geneva by the Swedish International Cooperation Agency (Sida).

  10. The long journey of justice for Indonesian migrant workers

    As the second largest sending country, some 700.000 documented Indonesian migrant workers leave the country for work abroad, primarily in East and South East Asia as well as the Middle East. Of these, 78 per cent work as domestic workers.

    Growing numbers of Indonesian women and men continue to opt for overseas labour migration as the best way of securing an adequate income for their families and escaping poverty. However, the social and economic costs of migration to the workers and their families are many, but are often poorly understood and documented.

  13. ILO & ADB to hold seminar on creating quality employment in Asia and the Pacific

    A high-level discussion on creating quality employment in Asia and the Pacific is being organized by the ILO and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The event, on Monday 3 October 2011, will provide an opportunity for experts and policymakers to discuss the conclusions of the Special Chapter in the ADB’s annual publication Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific, entitled “Toward Higher Quality Employment in Asia”. The event is open to the public.
