Brunei becomes 180th ILO Member State

Brunei Darussalam has become the 180th Member State of the International Labour Organization

Bangkok (ILO News) – Brunei Darussalam has become the 180th Member State of the International Labour Organization (ILO) following receipt in Geneva of a letter from Mr. Pehin Dato Adanan Yusof, Minister of Home Affairs, stating on behalf of the Government that Brunei formally accepts the obligations of the ILO Constitution.

Brunei Darussalam’s membership became effective on 17 January 2007. The country has been a member of the United Nations since 21 September 1984.

Brunei Darussalam has a population of 357,800. The total labour force is 160,500 (95,000 men, 65,500 women) and the number in employment is 152,800 (91,000 male, 61,800 female)[1]. In 2005 GDP was US$9.6 billion.[2]Crude oil, natural gas and miscellaneous manufactured goods are the main exports.
