The Director-General will also visit Samut Prakarn and Samut Sakhon, where ILO has projects that aim to eliminate child labour, improve working conditions in the seafood processing industry, including addressing the special needs of migrant workers.
The ILO is the United Nations specialized agency that deals with work and work-related issues. It has a unique tripartite structure that involves workers, employers and governments equally in its governance and decision-making. The ILO was set up in 1919 and Thailand is one of the founder members.
Following his stay in Thailand, Mr Ryder will travel on to the Philippines for more official meetings.
